niece Jessica from Round Rock, Texas.<br />

Her First Grade class is doing a Flat Stanley<br />

project and she asked her Uncle Tim if<br />

he would show Flat Stanley the sites in<br />

Afghanistan while he is there. Even in a<br />

war, SFC Koehn still uses his library skills<br />

to help the soldiers in his unit with college<br />

courses, researching, and helping his<br />

niece with a school literature project. For<br />

A reader, SFC Koehn has<br />

done plenty of reading since his arrival and<br />

is never far from a book, magazine, or<br />

newspaper.<br />

away on March 5, 2012. She was a librarian<br />

at St. Stanislaus College for 37 years<br />

and a longtime member of the <strong>Mississippi</strong><br />

through 2003, and finally to the Yazoo<br />

<strong>Library</strong> <strong>Association</strong> through 2010.<br />

Laura Harper, Head of Government<br />

Documents at the University of <strong>Mississippi</strong><br />

Libraries, was given the 2011<br />

Bernadine Abbott Hoduski Founders<br />

Award.<br />

Maggie Moran was promoted to<br />

Director of Learning Resources after<br />

the retirement of Margaret Rogers at<br />

Northwest <strong>Mississippi</strong> Community<br />

College in Senatobia.<br />

Watkins Elementary School Librarian<br />

David Schommer was named a<br />

Metro Jackson Teacher of the Year and a<br />

JPS Outstanding Educator of the Year.<br />

Ryan P. Semmes, Assistant Archivist<br />

in the Congressional and Political<br />

Research Center and the Ulysses S.<br />

Grant Collection at Mitchell Memorial<br />

<strong>Library</strong>, was selected to participate in<br />

the 2011 Summer Institute for the Editing<br />

of Historical Documents.<br />

President Joyce M. Shaw was<br />

selected to become the 2011-12<br />

Assistant District Governor (ADG) for<br />

the Rotary International District 6840<br />

Beach Territory.<br />

Mona K. Vance, archivist at The<br />

Billups-Garth Archives with the Columbus-Lowndes<br />

Public <strong>Library</strong>, received<br />

the 2011 Award for Excellence for<br />

Archival Program Development.<br />
