2012 Spotlight
First Baptist Men's Group – Painted fence.
Our 2012 Spotlight is shining brightly on Bill and Carol Meehleis and
their family business Meehleis Modular. They hold a strong belief in
being active in their community and in supporting agencies that are
helping others. They have loved and supported Lodi House from
the very beginning. During the last 12 years they have:
• Furnished and beautifully decorated one of our bedrooms prior to
opening. Adopted a second
bedroom and made it welcoming
and cozy for a mom and her
children.
• Adopted families for Christmas
showering them with gifts and
food.
• Built much needed racks for our thrift store.
• Became members of our "Caring Hearts Club", which are our top
donors.
Kohl's – Gardening.
Mormons Helping Hands – Volunteered at our thrift store.
Girl Scout Troop 2271 – Book Drive and yard work.
Curves for Women – Collected food for Lodi House.
West 4-H – Pumpkins for the kids.
Century Christian Pre-School and Kindergarten –
Food Drive – thanks to Sherry Snapp.
Lodi Mexican American Lions Club –
Collected cleaning supplies and food items.
Bear Creek Church – Toiletry bags for the women.
Chancellor's Place – Residents raised money by collecting
cans & bottles for recycling.
COMMUNITY PRESENTATIONS
Suzanne Mangum did a special Lodi House Presentation
for the following groups:
Women's History Luncheon – Delta Theta Tau Sorority
Morada Garden Club
MOPS – Faith Community
Warm Hearts – First Methodist
Women's Missions – St. Peter's
Holidays such as Valentine's Day and Easter are often celebrated
with a cake or cookies that Carol "just dropped off" because she
was thinking of our families. A few years ago, Carol came up with
the idea of starting "Gram’s Apron Pocket" which is a wonderful way
to let our kids know that someone is thinking about them. The kids
feel so special when they receive a little gift from their secret
grandma. Whenever we have a need they are there to jump in and
help. Last year, they built a wall between the kitchen in our
transitional housing and the family room so that we could begin
the process of developing our Enrichment Center. That was a huge
project! The list goes on and on of all the wonderful things they
have done for us! Bill and Carol did a great job in raising their kids
to be community minded and to take care of those less fortunate.
So we salute not only Bill and Carol, but their family members
Jamie & Mark Meehleis, Chris and Julie Meehleis and Cheryl and
Mike Sinclair and all the grandchildren.
So Bill and Carol, let the spotlight shine as you are an inspiration to
us all! If you would like to be part of sharing in Gram's Apron
Pocket, please contact Carol at bnc@meehleis.com
Thank you
Years!
Lodi House is help for a changed
life, hope for a brighter tomorrow.
Our hope for each family member
is that they will be changed
because we touched their life in a
positive way. We gave them hope,
a renewed spirit and skills to make
it on their own.
Enrichment Center . . .
Our new Enrichment Center will be dedicated to
“enriching” the lives of the Lodi House residents and
graduate families. It will be a place for learning, for seeking
employment, and in general bettering one's life. It will be
open for our clients to attend workshops and trainings, use
the computers, and to borrow self-help and educational
books and videos. It will also be available for our graduate's
children to do projects, homework and research.
Lodi House Thrift Store
Our thrift store is doing well and meeting the goals that
we originally established. It is raising funds to run our
programs at Lodi House and it is assisting our residents
and graduates with training, employment and free items.
We are also giving back to our community with low prices.
We now have a Seniors Discount Day every Tuesday with
25% off. Our newest goal is to find a building we can
purchase for the store. We are seeking to find a location
that will belong to us. We have a “Thrift Store Building
Fund” of $75,000 that was begun by Joe & Susan Maley.
Recognition
The Lodi House Thrift Store was voted as the #3 thrift
store in the county as published in "The Record's Best of
San Joaquin County".
Management
Lodi House Celebrating12 Years
serving our community.
During these 12 years, we have
changed and grown. We’ve expanded
our services to include our thrift
store, transitional housing and this
year our new “Enrichment Center.”
Our Mission has remained the same:
We provide shelter, food, counseling and
support to homeless women and
children in San Joaquin County. We assist
women in gaining control of their lives
and in developing a healthy life style
that will result in their independence.
Our Goals have expanded from not only
helping women understand and
overcome the issues that brought them
to the point of becoming homeless, but
also includes assisting them in obtaining
the skills that will result in their
obtaining more productive employment.
OUR PROGRAMS
“Hope for the Family” – This is our
primary program consisting of case
management and therapy sessions. This
program gives women hope that they
can change their situation and have a
better future.
“Help for the Family” – This program
provides for the physical needs of our
families when they first move into Lodi
House. We are able to give them bus
passes, personal care items, school
supplies and baby items such as diapers.
“Health for the Family” – This program is
about providing nutritious food and
information about a healthy life style to
our families.
Requirements of our 90 day program are
that women must obtain employment,
save money and remain drug and
alcohol free.
