- The Vertical Speed Indicator (VSI) should indicate zero, or if an<br />

error is noted, note the error and use as the zero reference point.<br />

Gyroscopic Instruments<br />

- The Attitude Indicator should indicate no more than 5° of<br />

precession in pitch and bank.<br />

- The Turn Coordinator should indicate a bank in the direction of<br />

turn, with the ball (inclinometer) to the outside of the turn. The Off<br />

flag should not appear.<br />

- The Heading Indicator Compass Card must indicate a change in<br />

heading consistent with the direction the aircraft is turning.<br />

Horizontal Situation Indicator (HSI)<br />

To test the HSI:<br />

- Select “Free” mode<br />

- Flip the CW/CCW switch to CW and verify that the HSI turns clockwise<br />

- Flip the CW/CCW switch to CCW and verify that the HSI turns<br />

counter-clock-wise<br />

- Continue the CCW turn past a known heading<br />

- Return the switch to the “Slave” mode (the HSI heading should<br />

automatically correct to the magnetic heading.<br />

Magnetic Compass<br />

- The Magnetic Compass housing should contain full fluid, swing<br />

freely, and indicate known headings.<br />

- The Compass Deviation Card must be in place and readable.<br />

4. AUX VACUUM PUMP ON/VERIFY/OFF<br />

Turn on the AUX VACCUM PUMP and verify that the AUX ON light is<br />

illuminated and an electrical load increase of approximately 15 amps on the<br />

ammeter. Turn off the AUX VACCUM PUMP and verify that the AUX ON<br />

light has extinguished.<br />

5. AVIONICS SET<br />

SET the AVIONICS as follows:<br />

- Marker Beacon: Test the Anunciators and set to the L (low sensitivity)<br />

position.<br />
