Pilot Flying (PF) Duties:<br />
The primary responsibility of the PF is to fly the airplane in accordance with<br />
established safety, regulatory, and <strong>ERAU</strong> procedures. The PF is the flight<br />
crewmember who “has the flight controls.” The PF shall...<br />
(1) Aviate<br />
- Maintain positive control of the airplane by manipulating the flight<br />
controls and/or managing the flight automation system.<br />
- Exhibit proper collision avoidance procedures.<br />
- Initiate, verify, and complete all <strong>checklist</strong>s.<br />
(2) Navigate<br />
- Ensure the airplane operates and progresses as assigned/cleared<br />
by ATC or as desired by the PIC.<br />
(3) Communicate<br />
- Make all radio communications to include the recording of ATC<br />
clearances and taxi instructions.<br />
- Initiate all flight crewmember coordination procedures.<br />
Pilot Monitoring (PM) Duties:<br />
The primary responsibility of the PM is to monitor and verify the airplane’s<br />
operation. The PM is the flight crewmember who does not “have the flight<br />
controls.” The PM shall...<br />
(1) Maintain situational awareness by…<br />
- Exhibiting proper collision avoidance procedures.<br />
- Confirming the current operation of the airplane is consistent with<br />
safety, regulatory, and <strong>ERAU</strong> requirements.<br />
- Ensuring the current operation of the airplane complies with ATC<br />
clearances/instructions or the intent of the PIC.<br />
(2) Alert the PF if the operation of the airplane may be contrary to...<br />
- Safety, regulatory, or <strong>ERAU</strong> requirements.<br />
- ATC clearances/instructions or the intent of the PIC.<br />
(3) Respond to all flight crew coordination procedures.<br />
NOTE<br />
In situations when only one flight crewmember occupies the<br />
front seat, such as during solo, or during check rides when<br />
single pilot resource management is being evaluated, PF<br />
duties shall be performed but PM duties may be omitted.<br />
