Conclusion<br />

The application of environmentally <strong>and</strong> eco-<strong>in</strong>novative technologies brought<br />

about <strong>the</strong> required positive effects of reduc<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong>dustrial pollution <strong>and</strong> <strong>in</strong>creas<strong>in</strong>g<br />

environmental protection at <strong>the</strong> European level.<br />

<strong>Environmental</strong>ly friendly technologies can not only be applied <strong>in</strong> Europe, but can<br />

also serve as an export that fulfils two functions – <strong>the</strong>se technologies represent an<br />

opportunity for better production <strong>and</strong> fur<strong>the</strong>r <strong><strong>in</strong>novation</strong> while help<strong>in</strong>g to reduce<br />

environmental burdens where <strong>the</strong>y are utilized. The transfer of know-how <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> area of<br />

environmental technologies <strong>and</strong> eco-<strong><strong>in</strong>novation</strong>, especially to Third World countries,<br />

is also viewed by <strong>the</strong> European Commission as an important environmental protection<br />

tool that requires <strong>in</strong>creased attention <strong>the</strong>se days.<br />

The publication is an <strong>in</strong>itial look <strong>in</strong>to <strong>the</strong> issue of environmental technologies <strong>and</strong><br />

eco-<strong><strong>in</strong>novation</strong> <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Czech</strong> Republic. Concrete examples of successful development,<br />

production <strong>and</strong> <strong>the</strong> application of different technologies <strong>in</strong> practice prove that <strong>the</strong><br />

<strong>Czech</strong> Republic is a country with a high potential of us<strong>in</strong>g advanced technologies <strong>in</strong><br />

a number of <strong>in</strong>dustries <strong>and</strong> agricultural branches <strong>and</strong> that <strong>the</strong>re is a high potential<br />

for <strong>the</strong>ir fur<strong>the</strong>r application. Nei<strong>the</strong>r <strong>the</strong> def<strong>in</strong>itions of sectors, nor <strong>the</strong> list of<br />

<strong>in</strong>dividual technologies are ei<strong>the</strong>r f<strong>in</strong>al or closed. On <strong>the</strong> contrary, eco-<strong><strong>in</strong>novation</strong> <strong>and</strong><br />

environmental technologies can be applied <strong>in</strong> a wide range of situations <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Czech</strong><br />

Republic.<br />

This is also proved by <strong>the</strong> 8 th edition of <strong>the</strong> European Innovation Scoreboard that<br />

was <strong>in</strong>troduced <strong>in</strong> Brussels on 22 January 2009. The document compares <strong>the</strong> levels of<br />

<strong>in</strong>novative systems between EU member state policies <strong>and</strong> o<strong>the</strong>r selected countries.<br />

The <strong>Czech</strong> Republic ranked 15 th out of <strong>the</strong> EU27 <strong>and</strong> is among “moderate <strong>in</strong>novators”.<br />

The <strong>Czech</strong> Republic’s <strong><strong>in</strong>novation</strong> efficiency is below <strong>the</strong> EU27 average, but <strong>the</strong> annual<br />

growth of <strong>the</strong> <strong><strong>in</strong>novation</strong> <strong>in</strong>dex, used to measure <strong><strong>in</strong>novation</strong> efficiency, is above <strong>the</strong><br />

EU27 average.<br />
