Bio-flotation flocculation is a process where bio-flocculants are applied on the raw
materials intended for flotation in the first stage. This causes the agglomeration of
useful components into flakes and these float out after the addition of flotation agents.
It has been shown that the use of bio-flotation flocculation increases the mass yield of
the products by up to 15% while maintaining the required quality of the concentrate
with less than a 10% ash content.
Mineral biotechnologies are one of the main research topics at the Institute of
Environmental Engineering, Mining and Geological Faculty, The University of Mining
– Technical University in Ostrava. Long-term and traditional knowledge in the field of
