Bio-flotation flocculation is a process where bio-flocculants are applied on <strong>the</strong> raw<br />
materials <strong>in</strong>tended for flotation <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> first stage. This causes <strong>the</strong> agglomeration of<br />
useful components <strong>in</strong>to flakes <strong>and</strong> <strong>the</strong>se float out after <strong>the</strong> addition of flotation agents.<br />
It has been shown that <strong>the</strong> use of bio-flotation flocculation <strong>in</strong>creases <strong>the</strong> mass yield of<br />
<strong>the</strong> products by up to 15% while ma<strong>in</strong>ta<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong> required quality of <strong>the</strong> concentrate<br />
with less than a 10% ash content.<br />
M<strong>in</strong>eral biotechnologies are one of <strong>the</strong> ma<strong>in</strong> research topics at <strong>the</strong> Institute of<br />
<strong>Environmental</strong> Eng<strong>in</strong>eer<strong>in</strong>g, M<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g <strong>and</strong> Geological Faculty, The University of M<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g<br />
– Technical University <strong>in</strong> Ostrava. Long-term <strong>and</strong> traditional knowledge <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> field of<br />
m<strong>in</strong>eral resources treatment are used here.<br />
