pallets, boards, planks <strong>and</strong> various bar profiles.<br />
These products are resistant to wea<strong>the</strong>r, have good mechanical properties, are not<br />
moisture-absorbent, are chemically <strong>in</strong>ert, are lightweight <strong>and</strong> are fully recyclable.<br />
In <strong>the</strong> <strong>Czech</strong> Republic, <strong>the</strong> production of polyester gra<strong>in</strong> fibres obta<strong>in</strong>ed through<br />
<strong>the</strong> process<strong>in</strong>g of PET waste is performed by SILON s.r.o. <strong>in</strong> Planá nad Lužnicí. After<br />
<strong>the</strong> <strong>in</strong>itial treatment, PET waste is partly melted <strong>and</strong> after <strong>the</strong> desired properties are<br />
achieved, it is jet-<strong>in</strong>jected <strong>in</strong>to a condition<strong>in</strong>g shaft where <strong>the</strong> material cools down. The<br />
next steps depend primarily on <strong>the</strong> requirements for <strong>the</strong> f<strong>in</strong>al product (polyester staple,<br />
PET strap, PET film, etc.). Dur<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong> manufacture of polyester fibres (TESIL ® polyester<br />
fibre), known especially for <strong>the</strong> production of cloth<strong>in</strong>g, <strong>the</strong> fibres are fur<strong>the</strong>r stretched<br />
to a thickness suitable for use <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> textile <strong>in</strong>dustry. In 2008, TESIL ® polyester fibre<br />
was awarded <strong>the</strong> European Union eco-label <strong>and</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Environmental</strong>ly Friendly Product<br />
label for textiles. <strong>Eco</strong>-labell<strong>in</strong>g is a voluntary <strong>in</strong>strument for environmental protection.<br />
<strong>Eco</strong>-labelled products are not only more environmentally friendly through all stages<br />
of <strong>the</strong>ir life, but are also healthier for consumers.<br />
8.1.4 | The recycl<strong>in</strong>g of selected waste<br />
For <strong>the</strong> purpose of waste material utilisation, <strong>the</strong> follow<strong>in</strong>g procedures are also used<br />
– crush<strong>in</strong>g, sort<strong>in</strong>g <strong>and</strong> gr<strong>in</strong>d<strong>in</strong>g.<br />
An example of us<strong>in</strong>g those procedures is <strong>the</strong> recycl<strong>in</strong>g of scrapped tyres. Through<br />
tyre recycl<strong>in</strong>g, new certified products are obta<strong>in</strong>ed that are suitable for anti-vibration<br />
plates, rubber tiles, etc. In <strong>the</strong> <strong>Czech</strong> Republic, many companies belong to <strong>the</strong> <strong>Czech</strong><br />
Association for <strong>the</strong> Recycl<strong>in</strong>g of Tyres.<br />
Ano<strong>the</strong>r example of us<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong>se technologies is <strong>the</strong> recycl<strong>in</strong>g of build<strong>in</strong>g waste<br />
by crush<strong>in</strong>g <strong>and</strong> subsequent sort<strong>in</strong>g. Construction <strong>and</strong> demolition waste represents<br />
a significant portion of waste produced <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> EU <strong>and</strong> <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Czech</strong> Republic; more<br />
than 25%. The quality of <strong>the</strong> recyclate depends on <strong>the</strong> gr<strong>in</strong>d<strong>in</strong>g technology used for<br />
process<strong>in</strong>g build<strong>in</strong>g waste. The same applies to asphalt-concrete recycled dur<strong>in</strong>g<br />
reconstruction of roads. In <strong>the</strong> <strong>Czech</strong> Republic, <strong>the</strong> Association for <strong>the</strong> Development<br />
of Build<strong>in</strong>g Materials Recycl<strong>in</strong>g connects persons <strong>and</strong> organizations deal<strong>in</strong>g with <strong>the</strong><br />
issues of construction waste process<strong>in</strong>g.
