Equipment conta<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g CFC is processed <strong>in</strong> two stages. In <strong>the</strong> first stage, CFCs are<br />
vacuumed off <strong>in</strong>sulation <strong>and</strong> cool<strong>in</strong>g circuits <strong>in</strong> a mixture with oil <strong>in</strong>to a low-temperature<br />
condens<strong>in</strong>g unit <strong>and</strong> <strong>the</strong>n separated through <strong>the</strong>rmal degasification 1 (both components<br />
are separated). CFCs are fur<strong>the</strong>r pumped <strong>in</strong>to pressurised conta<strong>in</strong>ers <strong>and</strong> forwarded for<br />
disposal. In <strong>the</strong> second phase, <strong>in</strong>sulation is crushed <strong>in</strong> vacuum. Materials obta<strong>in</strong>ed by<br />
adjust<strong>in</strong>g electrical equipment are sent out for fur<strong>the</strong>r use.<br />
8.1.2 | Plasma technology <strong>in</strong> electric waste process<strong>in</strong>g<br />
One of <strong>the</strong> latest technologies for process<strong>in</strong>g electronic waste is a plasma melt<strong>in</strong>g<br />
technology. In <strong>the</strong> <strong>Czech</strong> Republic, this technology is possessed by SAFINA, a.s,<br />
which has developed a unique process called PlasmaEnvi ® . The process was designed<br />
specifically for process<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong>dustrial catalytic converters with <strong>the</strong> ma<strong>in</strong> emphasis on<br />
those conta<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g precious metals. Low-purity materials from scrapped electrical<br />
equipment are processed through plasma melt<strong>in</strong>g. These metals are ma<strong>in</strong>ly nonferrous<br />
metals conta<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g copper <strong>and</strong> precious metals. Outputs of <strong>the</strong> technology<br />
are copper bars conta<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g precious metals (gold, silver, palladium, plat<strong>in</strong>um), i.e.<br />
predom<strong>in</strong>antly non-ferrous metals conta<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g copper <strong>and</strong> precious metals. In a plasma<br />
smelter, <strong>the</strong> aforementioned materials are re-melted <strong>and</strong> <strong>the</strong> obta<strong>in</strong>ed metals are <strong>the</strong>n<br />
re-used. All pre-treated waste gases are combusted. Therefore, valuable raw materials<br />
are obta<strong>in</strong>ed from waste while environmental burdens caused by emissions are<br />
m<strong>in</strong>imised. More extensive utilisation of <strong>the</strong> technology is anticipated <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> future.<br />
There is no o<strong>the</strong>r low-purity waste process<strong>in</strong>g technology <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Czech</strong> Republic.<br />
8.1.3 | The recycl<strong>in</strong>g of plastics<br />
In <strong>the</strong> <strong>Czech</strong> Republic, <strong>the</strong> recycl<strong>in</strong>g of plastics is performed ei<strong>the</strong>r from mixed plastics<br />
or sorted plastics, e.g. PET 2 bottles, waste from <strong>the</strong> manufacture of plastics, etc.<br />
Mixed plastic waste recycl<strong>in</strong>g is performed by Transform a.s. <strong>in</strong> Lázně Bohdaneč.<br />
They treat sorted plastics from communal waste. The waste is crushed, ground or <strong>in</strong><br />
<strong>the</strong> case of film, agglomerated 3 <strong>and</strong> mixed <strong>in</strong> suitable proportions to make a product<br />
of required properties. The pre-treated mixture is <strong>the</strong>n used to produce glass blocks,<br />
1 <strong>the</strong>rmal degasification – <strong>the</strong> process of heat<strong>in</strong>g a liquid <strong>and</strong> <strong>the</strong> gases bound <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> liquid are released<br />
2 PET – polyethylenterephthalate<br />
3 agglomeration – <strong>the</strong>rmal process<strong>in</strong>g by s<strong>in</strong>ter<strong>in</strong>g films <strong>in</strong> granules<br />
