provides access to a variety of other major resources, 486 and l<strong>in</strong>ks to Trismegistos texts have recently
become available through the Papyrological Navigator.
Of the four databases that are federated through Trismegistos, the HGV is the largest, and it is a
participat<strong>in</strong>g partner <strong>in</strong> the APIS and the IDP projects as well as LaQuAT. First funded <strong>in</strong> 1988, this
database <strong>in</strong>cludes extensive metadata 487 on almost all Greek and Lat<strong>in</strong> documentary papyri and
ostraca from Egypt and nearby areas that have appeared <strong>in</strong> more than 500 pr<strong>in</strong>t publications. 488 The
metadata <strong>in</strong> the HGV describe the papyri found <strong>in</strong> many other papyri collections, <strong>in</strong>clud<strong>in</strong>g many of
those found with<strong>in</strong> the APIS and <strong>in</strong> particular the DDbDP. The current database <strong>in</strong>cludes 56,100
records (though each record is not for a unique papyrus) s<strong>in</strong>ce records/metadata for many <strong>in</strong>dividual
papyrus have been published <strong>in</strong> separate collections and thus there are often several metadata records
for the same papyrus. The database is based on FileMaker, and for users unfamiliar with this
commercial database, search<strong>in</strong>g the HGV requires referr<strong>in</strong>g to the specific database documentation.
The user can also browse an alphabetical list of texts, and the record for each papyrus <strong>in</strong>cludes details
of its publication and l<strong>in</strong>ks to the full text when available <strong>in</strong> both the Perseus and papyri.<strong>in</strong>fo
implementations of the DDbDP.
Another database federated through Trismegistos but that also ma<strong>in</strong>ta<strong>in</strong>s a separate website for its
database is the Arabic Papyrology Database (APD), a project created by the International Society for
Arabic Papyrology. The APD allows users to search for Arabic documents on papyrus, parchment, and
paper from the seventh through the sixteenth centuries AD. The website notes that although there are
more than 150,000 Arabic documents conserved on papyrus and paper, only a small number of them
have been published and extensively studied. 489 The APD provides access to about 850 (out of 2,000)
Arabic texts and is the first electronic compilation of Arabic papyri. Both simple and advanced
search<strong>in</strong>g options are available, and the APD supports lemmatized search<strong>in</strong>g of the papyri text and a
full search of the metadata. The collection of papyri can also be browsed by name, metadata, or
references. Each papyrus record <strong>in</strong>cludes full publication metadata, the full Arabic text (<strong>in</strong>clud<strong>in</strong>g
variant read<strong>in</strong>gs and apparatus), a transcription, and relevant lexicon entries for words.
The third database federated through Trismegistos with a significant separate web presence is the
Brussels Coptic Database (BCD), a database of Coptic documentary texts that was started <strong>in</strong> 2000 and
is currently ma<strong>in</strong>ta<strong>in</strong>ed by Ala<strong>in</strong> Delattre of the Centre de Papyrologie et d'Épigraphie Grecque of the
Université Libre de Bruxelles. The BCD used the HGV as its <strong>in</strong>itial model and now provides access to
about 6,700 Coptic texts that have been previously published. The search <strong>in</strong>terface supports multiple
fielded keyword search<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong> French <strong>in</strong> the follow<strong>in</strong>g fields: sigla, <strong>in</strong>ventory number, material, orig<strong>in</strong>,
date, dialect, content, bibliography, varia, and text ID. Although the website <strong>in</strong>dicates plans to provide
access to the full text of documents, currently most of the database is limited to metadata regard<strong>in</strong>g the
papyri.
