REAL PRIDE!
As the years pass I think we all get a little wiser, make better decisions,
and hope to make a difference with our efforts.
In today’s difficult economic environment, taking a business from
ground zero and making it a viable entity truly can make a difference.
Small, but mighty! The photo you see above shows a group of people
who really make a difference! They are the smallest, yet fiercest work
force of any of the major competitors. But of the one percent of volume
they produce in comparison to their competitors, ninety percent of those
products are made and sold into one industry. And that industry is
probably one of the toughest to be involved in – the refuse industry.
So, how is it that Autocar now has ten years under its belt, has released
two new truck platforms in the last two years, and has proven itself to
be not only viable, but successful Some companies give lip-service to
it, some companies even market it, but they all proclaim it one way or
another…it is our people!
When I was approached to write the President’s column in the inaugural
edition of our new magazine, my subject was easily chosen; it is all
about our people and their dedication to do the right thing for you,
our customer.
It is not just talk at Autocar. We have made massive system, process,
and product improvements and will continue to do so. We listen to our
customers and plan to open the lines of communication with them
even more. But of the factors that have and will continue to drive this
company to success, hands-down, it is the people in this picture that
make the difference!
Watch, and you will see these people grow, shine, and prosper. Truly.

4,000 GREEN MACHINES LATER...
Still Going Strong
In 2010, Autocar began to establish itself as “The
Green Leader”; it will cement that position as it
produces its 4,000th natural gas-powered truck.
Autocar built its first natural gas vehicle almost 12
years ago when natural gas was primarily utilized
in the transit industry. At that time, there were few
potential customers who could immediately introduce
Compressed Natural Gas (CNG)-fueled trucks into
their refuse fleets. Since then, the tide has turned
away from foreign oil dependency leading more of
our customers to look for ways to utilize our nation’s
plentiful supply of natural gas. Autocar has utilized
these years wisely by working exclusively with
Cummins to develop a more ecologically-friendly,
yet highly functional natural gas-fueled vehicle.
To date there have been four generations of natural
gas engines as well as further exploration into the
use of natural gas technology in emerging hybrid
propulsion technology. Autocar is meeting the
challenge – providing the industry’s latest innovations
and technology to promote customer efficiency
and profitability.
Autocar’s Xpeditor provides the severe-duty truck
customer with the options of CNG or Liquid Natural
Gas (LNG) in a time-tested, reliable truck. In fact in
2012 a milestone will be achieved for the environment,
the industry, and for Autocar as the 4,000th natural
gas Autocar truck will be produced. Natural gas
truck customers can also look forward to the release
of the Cummins ISX-G which will be available in the
third quarter of 2013. With a properly configured
vehicle specifically tailored to your needs, a natural
gas-powered refuse truck can perform at least as
well as its diesel counterpart and also provides many
other benefits that diesel cannot offer, including
abundant local reserves and reduced emissions,
operating costs, and noise.
NEW AUTOCAR TAGLINE
There has been a noticeable addition to
the traditional Autocar logo: the tagline
Always Up. You won’t see this on the
vehicle itself, but you will in this year’s promotions and advertisements.
This phrase is the epitome of our promise to our customers and to ourselves.
We are making a promise and we want everyone to know it – from our words
and our actions. Always Up encapsulates the following points:
• Always provide products that deliver the best value.
• Always provide the best service.
• Always provide a complete solution for our customers’ needs.
• Always do the work right the first time.
• Always act proactively, timely, and simply.
These guiding principles are meant to enhance our customers’ experience
as well as improve our product and company. Our mission is to satisfy you,
the customer. Because at Autocar…the customer is our boss!
A New Year with New Symbols
Autocar understands the sense of pride and satisfaction that comes from doing your
part to help the environment. That is why in 2012 you will see a new logo proudly
displayed on every alternative-fueled Autocar vehicle. Currently, Autocar offers CNG
and LNG-powered vehicles, as well as hybrid propulsion-powered vehicles. This new
logo symbolizes these three “green” fuel options with three green plumes; while
the globe represents Autocar’s diligence to produce alternative-powered vehicles
focused on preserving and protecting our planet.
Autocar is proud to have produced the largest number of class
eight natural gas-powered refuse trucks for each of the last
12 years, highlighting this accomplishment with the production
of its 4,000th truck in 2012. Autocar has built almost four
times as many CNG and LNG trucks as its closest competitor
and more than double the number of natural gas-powered
trucks produced by all competitors combined.

highlighting the Xpeditor’s best-in-class
features. For his efforts, Alan has been
awarded a Dale Jarrett Racing Adventure
from Waste Advantage Magazine.

nationwide, educating more distributors and
customers on how best to maintain and repair Autocar
vehicles. This training includes how to order parts,
perform routine maintenance, and build relationships
with people who can help. At Autocar, we are constantly
working to improve the customers’ experience and their
overall satisfaction.
Service after the sale is one of the most important
aspects of our industry. Providing world-class support
that exceeds all expectations is what we strive for daily.
We know from experience that when our customers have
a service issue, they want help immediately. That is why
Autocar is available for support in a multitude of ways.
The latest service tool provided to our customers is a
technical service support. It is the mobile version of
Web-Link direct. We also offer Tech Docs Direct, an
online, ever-expanding library of videos, schematics,
and trouble-shooting trees, as well as our parts catalog.
Led by Cory Roberson, Autocar’s service team has been
hand-selected, combining more than 200 years of
experience in the refuse industry. Their focus is to
simplify and strengthen the connection between the
customer and factory support services and personnel –
ultimately preventing issues when possible and resolving
them if not. Autocar’s service team has extensive
experience in the heavy-duty truck industry and is

In 2011, Autocar introduced the Xpert, a medium-duty
truck specifically designed and engineered for street
sweeping applications. As the newest member of the
Autocar family, Xpert inherited the Autocar legacy of
superior quality, reliable performance, and unmatched
wire harnesses. Our engineers designed the Xpert’s
frame rails to be the strongest and most durable in their
class. Our standard 120 KSI rails offer an impressive
1.7M RBM strength without any reinforcements. With
the Autocar Xpert, there is no longer a need for heavy,
durability.
Xpert was designed to bring best-in-class design
innovations to the class seven Cab Over Engine (COE)
truck market; achieving an unprecedented level of
driver satisfaction. We
carefully selected the
right power steering
gear, coupled it with
a wide-turning, widetrack
front axle, and
optimized the steering
geometry and wheel cut in order to ensure the tightest
turning radius possible while minimizing tire scrub.
The Xpert exemplifies the seamless integration of form
and function. It features more interior room than
competitive cabs including a spacious storage area
behind the seats. The Xpert also offers a premium ride
due in part to our large displacement coil spring and
shock absorber cab suspension system. The cab is
designed to ensure the best 360° sight lines, thus
minimizing the risk of collisions and costly repairs.
We designed the Xpert COE with a factory-engineered,
durability-tested OEM dual-steer system. All controls
are positioned either in the middle for easy reach or
duplicated on both sides to eliminate confusion and
frustration when switching driver side positions. The
electrical system was designed from the ground up for
dual-steer functionality with no third party splicing into
weighted frame liners.
We have partnered with the heavy-duty trucking
industry’s most well-known and respected suppliers to
build the Xpert. We have included Cummins engines,
Allison transmissions, TRW steering systems, Dana
axles and drivelines, Hendrickson suspensions, and
Bendix braking systems to ensure the highest quality
components and most readily available parts and
service support.
