MORGAN COMMUNITY CAR UPDATE 6 The community car has now been operating for almost two years thanks <strong>to</strong> the generosity of our volunteer drivers. Unfortunately over that time we have lost a number of drivers for various reasons, resulting in having <strong>to</strong> ask for everyone’s assistance <strong>to</strong> ensure the service remains viable. Despite advertising in the Morgan Matters we have been unable <strong>to</strong> recruit new drivers <strong>to</strong> fill the gaps. Action <strong>to</strong> assist the service and the volunteers are listed below. ALL bookings must be made through the coordina<strong>to</strong>r, only by the client. Use the community car as a last resort, not the first easy option. Use Family members as a first preference when a medical appointment is required. Do not embarrass drivers by asking <strong>to</strong> do any shopping other than prescriptions. The car is <strong>to</strong> be re-fuelled only once by the driver after the trip at Morgan. Don’t use the Community Car when you are able <strong>to</strong> use your own. Please remember that this service was started <strong>to</strong> assist those people who have no other way <strong>to</strong> attend medical appointments, and not <strong>to</strong> be used when alternative transport is available. Remember also that the service is operated with volunteer drivers who very generously give of their time, even on weekends. WITHOUT OUR VOLUNTEER DRIVERS THERE IS NO COMMUNITY CAR. PLEASE CONSIDER THE ABOVE SUGGESTIONS TO ENSURE THE CONTINUATION OF THE SERVICE. MORGAN/CADELL MEDICAL TRANSPORT COMMITTEE “Magnificent Murray Divas” Morgan Cadell Redhat Ladies Thank you “Princesses” Lee and Jo who organized a great “Touch of Pink Day” 31 st August. We appreciated the work the Terminus Hotel team put in <strong>to</strong> make us welcome, thank you Annie, Doug and Brigette. Special thanks also <strong>to</strong>: Barb for delicious pink cakes, Belinda for craft jewellery and all who donated prizes. Fun games kept everyone on their (pink) <strong>to</strong>es. We celebrated Birthdays for Sue James and Lee Mazzeo, and bid fond farewell <strong>to</strong> Nola Ward. We jokingly call her “Baroness Swinging Door” (she’s never home) but it’s no joke that we will miss wonderful Nola and her sense of fun, - not only at “Redhat” gatherings, but in our lives. Fortunately we’ve been privileged in making marvellous memories with Nola and Wack. We wish them happiness in their next adventure and trust whenever our paths cross, we will continue our friendship at the drop of a “redhat”. At the recent AGM of the Morgan Community Development and Tourism Association (MCDTA) the following people volunteered for 2010-2011. The games kept us laughing. “Yehaw!” Thanks Sue. Thank you Baldy, Leanne and Mandy at Commercial Hotel for great food and brilliant hospitality. September Birthdays celebrated were Di Reed and Belinda Keast. Marg Pobke provided the Birthday treats, and everyone present, including the Pub crew, loved the yummy cream cakes. Thanks Marg. Thanks Belinda for creating interesting jewellery. Congratulations <strong>to</strong> all prize winners, - a most enjoyable day. Next get-<strong>to</strong>gether is Tuesday 26 th Oc<strong>to</strong>ber at “Terminus Hotel” from 11.30 am. Wack and Nola Ward Morgan says a sad farewell <strong>to</strong> Nola and Wack, Morgan’s loss is Goolwa’s gain. They bought a shack at Pelican Point in the late 70’s where they have spent many happy years with family and made many friends. They have both been very community minded. Nola was a member of the Morgan Bowling club and Red-Hatters. Both were members of the Commercial Hotel Social Club committee and were part of the group who started the annual Black Tie Dinner, which is still a great success <strong>to</strong>day. Wack, as everyone knows is the resident “ roving reporter” for the Morgan Matters as well as proof reader. (This earned him the title of “Scoop Ward”.) What a great job he has done over the years, both with his interesting s<strong>to</strong>ries and fabulous pictures. He is one of the cura<strong>to</strong>rs of the Morgan Museum, which has seen many great changes for the better over the past few years. He is a member of “Boys Shed Night”, which is a group of dedicated workers who renovate dilapidated pieces of his<strong>to</strong>ry <strong>to</strong> be put on display at the museum. He has been part of the Special Events Committee who have raised an incredible sum of money already for the upgrade of Morgan’s river front. Back in the early 80’s he started the annual Horseshoe Throwing event at Pelican Point, raising money for St. Johns, Senior Cits, Lions etc. There is a perpetual trophy for the best shoes thrown for the day and is now called “The Aunty Bet Hausler Memorial Day”. Many thousands of dollars have been raised by this event. Both he and Nola have made many long-standing friends around the Morgan area who are really going <strong>to</strong> miss them. They have been the very best of neighbours <strong>to</strong> the Irvine family. There have been quite a few teary eyes over the last few weeks when people realized they were really leaving – there would be no more Wack <strong>to</strong> call on <strong>to</strong> ‘just take a pho<strong>to</strong>’ or talk on the ABC radio about his beloved Morgan and it’s river. Even Baldy and Leanne are upset – Rum sales of Mt. Gay are set <strong>to</strong> drop rapidly without Nola <strong>to</strong> pop in for a bottle or two! There are many more parts <strong>to</strong> these two special people that could be written, you all have your own s<strong>to</strong>ries you could tell, but what we do want <strong>to</strong> say is enjoy Goolwa, we know you will make many new friends – think of us now and again. GOODBYE SPECIAL PEOPLE FROM YOUR FRIENDS IN MORGAN. MAUR. MORGAN R.S.L NEWS All our members express condolences <strong>to</strong> Eddie Jones and family on the passing away of Sheila. She was so brave and battled as long as she could – a lovely lady, remembered by her friends at the Morgan RSL. We sadly farewelled two special people this month - Nola and Wack – who are doing a ‘sea change’ <strong>to</strong> Goolwa. It is not just the RSL who will miss them but also the many local clubs, pubs and committees they were involved in. We wish them all the best in their new adventure. Congratulations <strong>to</strong> Dougie Thamm on his election as President of the Morgan RSL. Keep Sunday 17 th Oc<strong>to</strong>ber open – it is the Bobby Kennett Memorial Trophy Day between the Morgan/Cadell Golf Club and Morgan R.S.L.
