MORGAN PRIMARY SCHOOL<br />

BOOK WEEK<br />

This year the kids <strong>on</strong>ce again dressed up as a “book<br />

character” for Book Week. A special assembly was held<br />

<strong>on</strong> Friday morning with a parade of costumes and then<br />

each student received their own book <str<strong>on</strong>g>to</str<strong>on</strong>g> keep which<br />

was d<strong>on</strong>ated by Governing Council. Some of our<br />

costumes included The Mad Hatter, Pirates, Jesse from<br />

Toy S<str<strong>on</strong>g>to</str<strong>on</strong>g>ry, Ger<strong>on</strong>imo Stil<str<strong>on</strong>g>to</str<strong>on</strong>g>n, The Swagman, Specky<br />

Magee and the Wicked Witch <str<strong>on</strong>g>to</str<strong>on</strong>g> name a few. The 2/3/4<br />

class dressed up<br />

JUMP ROPE<br />

Our annual Jump Rope for Heart Jump Off <str<strong>on</strong>g>to</str<strong>on</strong>g>ok place<br />

<strong>on</strong> Friday Sept 3 rd . Students have been practicing hard<br />

<strong>on</strong> their routines for a few weeks and they certainly put<br />

<strong>on</strong> a great display for parents and visi<str<strong>on</strong>g>to</str<strong>on</strong>g>rs. After the<br />

class routines, a delicious healthy lunch of Chicken<br />

Kebabs, Veggie Bake, Pota<str<strong>on</strong>g>to</str<strong>on</strong>g> Bake and Pizza was<br />

prepared by the Upper Primary Class. To finish off the<br />

lunch, a delicious fruit salad with icecream was enjoyed<br />

by all.<br />

DALE ELLIOTT VISIT<br />

Young ex Ramco man Dale Elliott (who is a motivati<strong>on</strong>al<br />

speaker, world record holder, comedian and paraplegic)<br />

recently visited <strong>Morgan</strong> Primary <strong>on</strong> a promoti<strong>on</strong>al <str<strong>on</strong>g>to</str<strong>on</strong>g>ur.<br />

He has just returned from a hand cycling marath<strong>on</strong> with<br />

a fellow paraplegic mate from Melbourne <str<strong>on</strong>g>to</str<strong>on</strong>g> Darwin <str<strong>on</strong>g>to</str<strong>on</strong>g><br />

raise m<strong>on</strong>ey <str<strong>on</strong>g>to</str<strong>on</strong>g> treat children with club feet in Africa. He<br />

also showed video footage <str<strong>on</strong>g>to</str<strong>on</strong>g> the students of his recent<br />

world record skydive in New Zealand. From his<br />

inspirati<strong>on</strong>al speech, the students have learnt that it’s<br />

not about what you “can’t do”, it’s about saying “I must”<br />

and just have a go!<br />

SCIENCE OPEN NIGHT<br />

The school recently invited families in for an open night<br />

as part of Science Week. Students had prepared and<br />

set up many experiments and games for parents <str<strong>on</strong>g>to</str<strong>on</strong>g><br />

participate in.<br />

QUIZ NIGHT<br />

Our bi-annual quiz night was held also <strong>on</strong> Friday 3 rd<br />

Sept with a little more than interesting weather! As we<br />

prepared <str<strong>on</strong>g>to</str<strong>on</strong>g> move everything over <str<strong>on</strong>g>to</str<strong>on</strong>g> the complex, a<br />

furious s<str<strong>on</strong>g>to</str<strong>on</strong>g>rm hit, washing everything out and cutting<br />

power. As they say – the show must go <strong>on</strong>. Thanks <str<strong>on</strong>g>to</str<strong>on</strong>g><br />

Gord<strong>on</strong> Johns<str<strong>on</strong>g>to</str<strong>on</strong>g>n and Will Lindner for supplying<br />

genera<str<strong>on</strong>g>to</str<strong>on</strong>g>rs and lighting <str<strong>on</strong>g>to</str<strong>on</strong>g> the complex, the mood was<br />

rather quirky then, 10 mins before start time, power was<br />

res<str<strong>on</strong>g>to</str<strong>on</strong>g>red!! A little late starting, the night proved <str<strong>on</strong>g>to</str<strong>on</strong>g> be a<br />

great <strong>on</strong>e again. This year we ended up with 15 tables<br />

of eager competi<str<strong>on</strong>g>to</str<strong>on</strong>g>rs ranging from 8yrs <str<strong>on</strong>g>to</str<strong>on</strong>g> 79yrs of age!<br />

We had two bottle coin <str<strong>on</strong>g>to</str<strong>on</strong>g>sses and two lolly jar <str<strong>on</strong>g>to</str<strong>on</strong>g>sses<br />

for the kids. An aucti<strong>on</strong> of two holiday packages, a<br />

Crows footy, Port Power footy day pass and M<strong>on</strong>ar<str<strong>on</strong>g>to</str<strong>on</strong>g><br />

Zoo pass al<strong>on</strong>g with our giant raffle, pushed our <str<strong>on</strong>g>to</str<strong>on</strong>g>tal<br />

al<strong>on</strong>g <str<strong>on</strong>g>to</str<strong>on</strong>g> approx $2,300. This m<strong>on</strong>ey will go <str<strong>on</strong>g>to</str<strong>on</strong>g>wards the<br />

school camps this year – Rec/Yr1/Yr2’s are off <str<strong>on</strong>g>to</str<strong>on</strong>g> the<br />

Adelaide Hills and the Year 3 – 7’s are heading <str<strong>on</strong>g>to</str<strong>on</strong>g><br />

Canberra. The winning team was “Food for Thought”<br />

Gord<strong>on</strong>, Karen & Bradley Johns<str<strong>on</strong>g>to</str<strong>on</strong>g>n & our ex CPS<br />

THE “GREAT ESCAPE” VISIT<br />

On Thursday 16 th Sept the Cystic Fibrosis “Great<br />

Escape” Bash cars came <str<strong>on</strong>g>to</str<strong>on</strong>g> visit students at <strong>Morgan</strong><br />

Primary. There were four different bash cars <strong>on</strong> school<br />

grounds and students were able <str<strong>on</strong>g>to</str<strong>on</strong>g> sit in them, <strong>on</strong> them,<br />

set off the sirens and music and see what they were all<br />

about. A short speech was given <strong>on</strong> what Cystic<br />

Fibrosis is about and an inspirati<strong>on</strong>al book mark was<br />

handed out. The night before, a large c<strong>on</strong>tingent of students<br />

and parents greeted the bash cars at the ferry<br />

with a “Welcome <str<strong>on</strong>g>to</str<strong>on</strong>g> <strong>Morgan</strong>” banner made by the 2/3/4<br />

class. The kids enjoyed receiving free goodies as they<br />

crossed the river and eventually <strong>Morgan</strong>’s Wizard of Oz<br />

truck arrived with Lucy, Kenny and Clare Fry <strong>on</strong> board.
