During this final quarter of School Year 2010-11, Ms Heidi Toole, our Math
Coach, will sponsor a school-wide IXL challenge! The challenge, which lasts six
weeks, will begin this Monday, May 2 and end on Friday, June 10. The goal is to
have 250,000 problems attempted within that six week period. Students can either
work at school or at home; however, please remind your child that she must be
working on skills AT or ABOVE her grade level. For example, 4 th graders
should not be getting credit for doing Level C skills. We have a big thermometer
in the school lobby to chart our progress.
Prizes: A pizza party will be awarded to the class in grades Kindergarten through
second with the most problems attempted, as well as the top class in grades three
through five. Additionally, if our school reaches the goal of 250,000 problems
attempted, then we will have a school-wide celebration during the last week of
school. Please help us support our amazing students as they strive to achieve this
goal! If you have any questions, please contact Ms. HT.
STUDENT RE-REGISTRATION
Thank you for coming to the Panzer PX student registration this week; it was a
great success! So far, we have 340 returning students and 45 new students
registered. If you have not registered your child, please contact the school office
to schedule an appointment with the Registrar, AC, at tel. 0711-680-5200, by
Friday, May 6. We would like to have ALL of our returning students registered
by Friday, June 2. If you know of any NEW families in the community that have
not registered their children yet, please encourage them to contact the school to
schedule an appointment.
SPOTLIGHT ON LITERACY
Summer fun does not have to mean summer learning loss!
Most U.S. students go to school for nine months each year, growing in their
knowledge and skills during this time. However, when summer comes along
many students experience summer learning loss. This loss is particularly evident
in reading. Various terms have been used to refer to what happens when students
are out of school during the summer months: “summer reading gap,” “summer
learning loss,” and “summer slide.” Regardless of which term is used, the research
clearly shows that summer learning loss contributes to the perpetuation of the
reading gap. Research consistently shows that struggling readers lose ground over
the summer. Of even greater concern is the fact that these losses are cumulative,
creating a wider gap each year between more proficient and less proficient
students. By the time a struggling reader reaches middle school, summer reading
loss has accumulated to a two year lag in reading achievement. So, what will
your child do this summer Check here each week for ideas to stimulate healthy
reading habits! Thank you for your continued support at home!

APRIL: CITIZENSHIP
School Newsletter
Each week our Guidance and Counseling Program
highlights a student from each class who demonstrates
the character trait of the month. The character trait for the
month of April is Citizenship.
How can you be a good citizen You are a good citizen
when you show respect by caring about the people,
animals, places and things around you and you obey rules
and laws. You are a good citizen when you are patriotic,
you show respect and salute the flag, sing patriotic songs,
and learn about your government, your country’s history,
your rights, your freedoms, and your responsibilities.
You are a good citizen when you serve in your
community, school and home. Congratulations to the
following students for demonstrating the character trait
of the month, Citizenship.
NATIONAL
PHYSICAL
EDUCATION &
SPORTS WEEK
Adults 18 and older need 30 minutes of physical
activity on five or more days a week to be
healthy; children and teens need 60 minutes of
activity a day for their health.
Significant health benefits can be obtained by
including a moderate amount of physical activity
(e.g., 30 minutes of brisk walking or raking
leaves, 15 minutes of running, 45 minutes of
playing volleyball). Additional health benefits
can be gained through greater amounts of
physical activity.
Thirty to sixty minutes of activity broken into
smaller segments of 10 or 15 minutes throughout
the day has significant health benefits.
Here are some easy and fun ways to increase
the amount of activity in your life:
