The Tam-O- Shanter Exhibition Center is one half mile west of McCord on Sylvania Avenue, behind the main building to the north and west entrances. This show will feature many of the newest spring decorating ideas, along with ideas for Mother’s Illinois. Seaman Recruit Teneyck is a 2012 graduate of Rossford High School. This show will feature dried and floral arrangements, soaps and lotions, fabric creations, jewelry, metal work, decorative painting of all kinds, ceramics, seasonal items and more. Rossford teacher raises funds for MS Society at annual walk The Rossford Association of Classroom Teachers once again sponsored Dawn Haas on her 10-mile walk to support the MS Walk of Northwest Ohio. This year’s event was held Sunday, April 14, and began at the University of Toledo. The walk took the participants through Ottawa Hills and ended back at the university. The Northwestern Ohio Chapter of the National MS Society is a community of individuals who are committed to achieving a world free of MS. The chapter helps more than 3,400 individuals throughout 26 counties in Ohio impacted by MS to move their lives forward. Ms. Haas, right, is pictured at the walk with her daughter Rebecca Williamson. Polish Village Kielbasa repeats as winner of PACT cook-off The Polish-American Community of Toledo (PACT) held its third annual Kielbasa Cook-Off on Saturday, April 13, at the Blessed Sacrament Community Hall and the team of Polish Village Kielbasa, led by Shawn Zaborski of Toledo, received the most votes and earned bragging rights again as “Kielbasa King.” The team was a repeat winner and received a cash prize of $300 and a trophy. Polish Village Kielbasa also won the celebrity judging. The celebrity judges were Toledo City Councilmen D. Michael Collins and Tom Waniewski. Ed Zawadzki, author of the book, “Poles of the New World” was the third celebrity judge. “We had around 1,000 people show up, and we raised an estimated $10,000 for our scholarship fund and other PACT charitable contributions,” said Stan Machosky, president, PACT Board of Directors. “While Polish Village Kielbasa may have won the competition, the fact is, we were all winners today. This was an incredible opportunity to display our Polish heritage. It was a great way to pass our Polish heritage along.” Finishing second in the Kielbasa Cook-off was the team of Domanski’s Klassic Kielbasa led by Mark Domanski of Toledo. The team received a cash prize of $250. The second place finish was an improvement from the second-annual kielbasa cook-off where the team finished a close third. The team of Team Kazlo, led by Phil Majewski, finished third in the 2013 PACT Kielbasa Cookoff. They received a cash prize of $100. Thirteen amateur teams competed in the 2013 Kielbasa Cook-off. Other participants included Elm Pigeon Club Kielbasa, Khuschwantz Kielbasa Co., Krueger’s Classic Kielbasa, Murawski's Meats, Nowak's Best, Polska Pryba, Smith Family Kielbasa, Stefanski’s Polska Kuchinia, Three “Ps” Kielbasa, and Tri Kounty Kielbasa Kings. This year ’s Kielbasa Cook-off also featured a silent auction which raised more than $700 for PACT. Money raised by the Kielbasa Cook-Off goes to fund PACT’s scholarship fund and other charitable donations, as well as fund the eventual development of a Polish Cultural Center. Eagles to host disco dance Sat., April 27 The Rossford Eagles will host a disco dance on Saturday, April 27, from 7:30 to 11:30 p.m., at 658 Lime City Road, Rossford. Garage sale GiveAway set for April 20 Lakewood Church of the Brethren will sponsor a large garage sale on April 20, with one big catch–everything is free. Perrysburg Symphony Orchestra to conclude season with concert at Owens on Sat., April 27 The Perrysburg Symphony Orchestra will conclude its 2012-13 season with a concert at the Owens Community College Fine Arts Building on Saturday, April 27, at 3 p.m., under the leadership of Conductor Robert Mirakian. Mr. Mirakian has chosen selections from Rossini, Tchaikovsky, Mozart and Handel. This five-week group, “After Your Parent Dies,” will meet on Wednesdays, May 8 to June 5, from 6 to 7:30 p.m., at Hospice of Northwest Ohio’s Toledo Center located at 800 South Detroit Avenue. Conducted by bereavement counselors, the sessions will help participants understand the impact of the loss of a parent on personal identity, revisit childhood losses and explore regret versus relief. Greek Orthodox Christians to celebrate Palm Sunday, Easter Greek Orthodox Christians worldwide will celebrate Palm Sunday this year on April 28, and Easter on May 5. Palm Sunday Services, April 28, will be held at the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral at 10 a.m. with the Procession of the Palms by the Church School Students. Evening services will be conducted April 28 through May 2, at 7 p.m., throughout the next week called Holy Week. On Thursday evening, May 2, is the reenactment of the Crucifixion of Jesus Christ, which will take place during the reading of the 12 Gospels. Following the fifth Gospel the Cross-of the Crucified Christ will be brought out in procession. Services will commence on Good Friday, May 3, at 2 p.m., with the removal of the body of Jesus off of the cross. That evening, at 7:30 p.m., the burial of Christ will be observed with the congregation chanting the Lamentations followed by an outdoor procession carrying the bier of Jesus Christ around the cathedral. Eminence Metropolitan Nicholas of Detroit will make a pastoral visitation and will be presiding. Beginning at 11:15 p.m., the Great Canon in anticipation of the Resurrection of Christ will commence. At midnight, the entire Church will be consumed in darkness until the Metropolitan comes forward with a lit candle exclaiming: “Come receive the Light.” The once dark and lifeless Church will become illumined with the lighted candles held by the faithful professing and joyfully exclaiming, “Christ is Risen.” On Easter Sunday, May 5, at noon, the Pan Orthodox Agape Service will take place at St. George Antiochion Church 3754 Woodley Road, with the reading of the Gospel in many different foreign languages. Quite often the celebration of Easter in the Western Church can vary from one to four weeks than that of the Western Church. The Orthodox adheres to the following calculation for celebrating Easter. Easter Sunday is celebrated on the first Sunday, after the full moon after Passover. Diocese of Toledo’s ‘White Mass’ to honor health care workers The Diocese of Toledo will host a White Mass on Sunday, April 28, at 10 a.m., at Our Lady, Queen of the Most Holy Rosary Cathedral to honor those who serve in the health care profession. All health care workers are invited to attend. Bishop Leonard P. Blair will celebrate the Mass. The White Mass is called so because health care workers traditionally wear white coats. White also is a symbol in the church of hope and comfort to the ill and hospitalized. At the end of the Mass, Bishop Blair will offer a blessing over all of the health care professionals. Santus, 88, died Sunday, April 14, 2013, at Hospice of Northwest Ohio in Perrysburg. He was born on August 6, 1924, in Vanderclift, Pennsylvania, to John and Josephine (Matusek) Santus. He was employed in the family business, the Santus Café, and his father’s construction business, Santus Construction, where he helped to build many homes in Rossford. He later worked for Libbey-Owens- Ford Glass Company, where he retired from the Rossford plant after 32 years. Mr. Santus served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was awarded the Bronze Star and Purple Heart. He was a longtime parishioner of All Saints Catholic Church, where he was a member of the Holy Cross Knights of Columbus. He also was a member of the Rossford Eagles, Rossford Senior Club and the Rossford American Legion Post 533. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Annie; daughters, Darleen Boldt and Lynn Santus; sons, William “Buddy” (Diane) Santus, Dennis Santus, and Todd (Donna) Santus; grandchildren, Shane, Josh, Kari, Brittany, Kyle, Elizabeth, Beau, Olivia, Dane and Rex; eight great-grandchildren, and sister, Hattie Peterson. He was preceded in death by his sisters, Trudi Benjamin, Vera Vonck and Frances Chvala, and brothers, John, Albert and Rudy Santus. A Recitation of the Rosary by the Knights of Columbus was held Wednesday, April 17, at the Sujkowski Funeral Home of Rossford. Visitation will continue today, April 18, at 9 a.m., at All Saints Catholic Church, 628 Lime City Road, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial beginning at 10 a.m., with the Rev. Kent Kaufman officiating. Interment will follow at Fort Meigs Cemetery in Perrysburg with full Military Honors provided by the Northwood VFW Post 2984. The cost is $8.50 for adults; $7.50, seniors; $4, •DALE NAGEL Dale Nagel, 66, of Wauseon, died Sunday, April 7, 2013, in his home. He was born October 12, 1946, in Napoleon, Ohio, to Bernard and Esther (Von Deylen) Nagel. Mr. Nagel was a 1964 graduate of Wauseon High School, and an alumnus of the Ohio State University and University of Toledo College of Law. He taught mathematics and coached for 30 years at schools in Archbold, Paulding and Rossford. He was the former head coach of the Rossford High School varsity golf and girls basketball teams. He also coached track and boys basketball at Rossford Junior High School for a number of years. In addition to being an educator, he was a summer employee at the former Sterling Milk Company for nearly 40 years. Since retiring from teaching, he was one of the promoters of the Sterlena Pride Dairy, and started the Rowhouse Antique Store in Wauseon. He also was a part-time attorney, practicing property and estate law in Fulton County. Mr. Nagel was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Wauseon, where he was a former parish education chairman and a Sunday School teacher. He was an avid sports fan and fervent supporter of the Buckeyes. His hobbies included golf, antiques, art and landscaping. He is survived by his children, Jacqueline (Todd) Caras and Derek (Lorna) Nagel, both of Atlanta, Georgia, Brock (Alyona) Nagel of Colorado Springs, Colorado; granddaughter, Alexis Nagel; brother, Roger (Shirley) Nagel, and sisters, Ruth Ann Kast and Elaine (Curt) Eicher, all of Wauseon. He was preceded in death by his parents; infant daughter, Jill Nagel, and brother-in-law, Harry Kast. A memorial service was held Tuesday, April 16, at Trinity Lutheran Church.
