a ring and earrings out of wire and beads and<br />

wrapped buttons. Expand your creative skills with<br />

each class project and go home with a gift for<br />

Silk Screen 101<br />

Location: Noyes Studio 221<br />

Check out this intriguing method for creating a silk<br />

screen in only seconds and you’ll be hooked. Screens<br />

can be used to print on fabric, paint on any flat<br />

surface with paint, dye, glue, gesso, discharge paste,<br />

and many other mediums. One large (7” x 9”) screen<br />

is included in your class fee; additional screens<br />

may be purchased. This is a fast and fun method of<br />

printing to add to your toolbox.<br />

Basic Mosaics<br />

Location: EAC 2 North<br />

A perfect introduction to basic mosaics is to spend<br />

three hours on a Sunday afternoon exploring the<br />

colorful and textured properties of ceramic tile and<br />

glass. Learn about design and composition, breaking<br />

and cutting tile, adhesives and substrates. Grouting<br />

will be demonstrated. Students will go home with<br />

a mosaic piece and the desire to make more. All<br />

materials and use of tools are provided. Please feel<br />

free to bring your own collection of ceramic tiles,<br />

glass, stones, and broken china.<br />

DIMENSIONAL LINES<br />

Saturday, October 1, 1pm – 4pm<br />

Location: Make Room 1st Floor EAC<br />

This workshop will explore and discuss the<br />

possibilities of a drawn line transforming into a<br />

three-dimensional construction. Drawn images will<br />

be created from observations of the interior and<br />

exterior of the EAC building. These drawings will<br />

be used as visual reference to create dimensional<br />

lines employing a wide range of traditional and<br />

alternative materials. Collectively these lines will be<br />

used to create a sculptural installation, which will<br />

occupy and interrogate the <strong>Art</strong> <strong>Center</strong>’s architecture.<br />

Students are encouraged to bring re-cycled<br />

materials and found objects to create their 3-D<br />

construction. All skill levels welcome.<br />

SHIBORI WITH NATURAL DYES ON SILK<br />

Location: Make Room 1st Floor EAC<br />

Make lovely images on silk with natural dyes<br />

applying a Shibori resist technique. Applying natural<br />

dye materials such as madder, cutch, cochineal<br />

insects, mordant processes will be introduced. Overdyeing<br />

and use of different mordant such as alum,<br />

tannin, and iron, create a wide range of hues. Lovely<br />

colors and patterns appear magically.<br />

This class will begin with the basic techniques of flat washes, shading,<br />

transparent glazes, wet-on-wet, dry brush and development of<br />

color studies. Exercises to help jump start creativity<br />

will be utilized and the emphasis on process will be stressed.<br />

This beautiful art form involves sifting and layering<br />

colored glass onto a metal base. Beginners learn<br />

enameling techniques and complete sample<br />

pieces, and then deign and make a piece of their<br />

choice. Advanced students work on more complex<br />

projects, improving or learning new techniques.<br />

FASHION INSPIRED BY SITE<br />

Using cloth as the medium, students will work from<br />

specific shapes, as well as site-inspired materials - for<br />

color, texture, and dimension - to make experimental<br />

3-D wearables. Students will use digital cameras and<br />

sketch books to observe and record the <strong>Art</strong> <strong>Center</strong><br />

building and surroundings before returning to the<br />

classroom to translate their observations into garments.<br />

FABRIC AS PAINT<br />

Work with fusible web/interfacing that adheres<br />

to fabric with a paper backing, making it easy to<br />

cut and paste as with paper collage. Students will<br />

complete a piece of artwork and have learned basic<br />

embroidery and piecing skills as well have received<br />

an introduction in color theory.<br />

TASTE OF STAINED GLASS<br />

foiling the pieces and soldering them to create a<br />
