I am thrilled to begin my tenure as President of the Board of Trustees of the Evanston Art Center. Filling Harold Bauer’s shoes is a huge undertaking, so I am pleased that he will be staying involved in several committees, offering his talent and years of experience to help with a smooth transition. I see this transition as a testament to the enduring legacy that all of you who love the Art Center have helped create. I will work hard to carry this legacy into the Art Center’s future: to be a fiscally strong organization, full of vitality and creativity while offering a wonderful selection of challenging, engaging classes and timely, compelling artistic events to pique the interest of all segments of our community. Thank you to the Board for their confidence in my ability to lead the Evanston Art Center, the staff for their dedication to the Art Center’s mission, our terrific faculty and to you, the supporters, members, and audience that breathe life into the Art Center every single day. I look forward to getting to know you and sharing all the wonderful programs we have to offer. For those of you who do not know me, like many of you, I am a long-time Evanston Art Center student. I began drawing classes in the early 1980’s. I soon became enamored with clay and figurative sculpture and have worked at the Noyes facility for more than 25 years. I have also enjoyed classes in the metal sculpture studio for several years and have a longing to return to that medium someday. This latest issue of Concentrics and our website highlight the exciting programs we offer. Please take your time to peruse our class offerings and range of workshops. While some of you are just entering a lifelong adventure in the visual arts, others are emerging artists in the public arena. Really, there is something for everyone, whether the beginning student or the professional artist. I hope that if you have yet to experience the Evanston Art Center, you will indulge a talent or whim and join us this session to experience some of our wonderful programs. The Evanston art Center is a membership organization. We value our place in this vibrant, thriving community as your gateway to the arts. We firmly believe that the arts enrich our lives and our communities, allowing us to share ideas, develop new perspectives and build new connections. Kaufman President, Board of Trustees Mission The Evanston Art Center, founded in 1929, is dedicated to fostering the appreciation and expression of the visual arts among the diverse audiences of the North Shore and Greater Chicago areas. The Evanston Art Center achieves its mission through studio art classes, exhibitions, outreach activities, educational programs, and publications, all of which are designed to engage and enrich the individual and the community. In carrying out this mission, the Evanston Art Center strives to encourage lifelong learning in the arts and to make the art of our time an accessible and integral part of people’s lives. THE ESTABLISHMENT OF THE EVANSTON ART CENTER was a direct result of civic and cultural leaders working together to realize the goal of a community center where the arts could be experienced, appreciated, discussed, and practiced. Our Art Center has continued to be a vital part of the community for over 80 years, serving artists, teachers, students of all ages, curators, collectors and connoisseurs, philanthropists, volunteers, work-study students, schools, art galleries, cultural institutions, and nonprofits. Our community outreach and scholarship programs help us reach underserved audiences. We continue to offer our constituents new and meaningful ways to engage in the arts. There is also street parking on Central Street and Lincoln Street. At Noyes Cultural Arts Center there is a public lot adjacent to the building and metered street parking on Noyes Street. EAC Gallery & class registration hours Monday thru Thursday: 9 am - 10 pm Friday: 9 am - 5 pm Saturday: 9 am - 4 pm, Sunday: 1 - 4 pm Galleries are free and open to the public. 1st floor galleries are handicapped accessible. Of course, there are a host of other membership levels available including individual, family and business. As a member of the Evanston Art Center you will be one of our most valued supporters. Student membership contributions help to defray some of the expenses of running a high-quality Art School and all membership levels help enable us to fulfill our mission and continue our community commitments. In return, we connect our members to the vibrant art scene of Chicago and Chicago’s North Shore with special access to collection tours, art openings, public programs, Art Store discounts, and more. 3
