FASHION SHOW: BEGINNING/ INTer<br />

Sandra Stone<br />

Design and construct clothing that will be presented<br />

during a fashion show. Clothes will be created from<br />

thrifted garments, traditional and non-traditional<br />

materials and fabrics. Students will learn basic<br />

pattern making, draping on the dress form, fabric<br />

cutting, hand stitching, and machine sewing.<br />

Intermediate students will work on individual<br />

projects that will advance their skills. Students will<br />

be involved in all stages of the fashion show: theme<br />

and music, hair, make-up and modeling their own<br />

creations. Some supplies provided and students will<br />

receive a supply list for additional required materials.<br />

Using Adobe Photoshop, Flash Animation, and<br />

Garage band, students learn the fundamentals of<br />

creating digital animation. Characters and story lines<br />

are developed throughout the class as students learn<br />

new techniques that incorporate sound, movement,<br />

and abstraction.<br />

create multi-media mash-ups. Create short films<br />

in iMovie by splicing together clips downloaded<br />

from the internet. Use found sound or add your own<br />

soundtrack and voice.<br />

DIGITAL PHOTOGRAPHY<br />

This multi-level class is for students who enjoy the<br />

art of photography and computer manipulation.<br />

Photoshop and camera techniques will be used for<br />

projects like self-portraits, interiors and landscapes.<br />

Students will learn about experimenting with<br />

different lighting, depth of field and creating<br />

dynamic compositions. Please bring a digital camera<br />

and directional manual to class the first day.<br />

This class offers students the opportunity to learn<br />

aspects of several drawing and painting media,<br />

charcoal and graphite, oil and acrylics. Working<br />

from observation, explore the possibility of these<br />

mediums, as well as concepts of color, composition,<br />

and perspective. Students will be introduced to<br />

works of contemporary artists and encouraged<br />

to develop their own creativity. Each project will<br />

enhance your college portfolio requirements.<br />

This challenging class offers students the<br />

opportunity to paint in both oil and acrylics. Working<br />

from observation, explore the possibility these<br />

mediums, as well as concepts of color, composition<br />

and perspective. Students will be introduced to<br />

works of contemporary artists and encouraged to<br />

develop their own creativity. Loose atmosphere and<br />

creativity encouraged.<br />

ETCHING AND WOODCUT<br />

Tuesday 6:30 – 8:30pm<br />

Location: EAC print studio at Noyes<br />

Etching and woodcut is a multi level course<br />

which includes an introduction to basic intaglio<br />

(etching and engraving) techniques, monotype<br />

and relief printmaking (woodcut). Instruction will<br />

be individualized, subject matter will come from<br />

students’ own drawings and each class member<br />

will be able to create several plates, at least one<br />

woodblock and short editions of prints. The goal<br />

of the class will be individual development within<br />

the framework of the collaborative print studio. The<br />

shop will provide all basic materials and supplies.<br />

The latest non-toxic methodology will be used.<br />

TEEN PAINTING<br />

Serious art instruction to build a portfolio for college<br />

– or just come draw and paint for the love of it.<br />

Create with kindred spirits while exploring various<br />

drawing and painting mediums including charcoal,<br />

pencils, oil and acrylic paint. Work from in class stilllife<br />

set-ups, your imagination, references, and more.<br />

Elevate your drawing and painting skills through<br />

practicing gesture drawing, contour drawing, color<br />

mixing, color theory and exploring paint application<br />

methods and mediums.<br />

THE FASHION PORTFOLIO<br />

Create 10-15 fashion illustrations that may be used<br />

to develop a college portfolio. Students will learn<br />

to illustrate the fashion figure with an emphasis on<br />

proportion, gesture and individual style. Designers<br />

will explore the silhouette, fabric selection, concept,<br />

color palette and garment details. Various genres<br />

will be discussed. Field trip to the world famous<br />

School of the <strong>Art</strong> Institute Fashion Department will<br />

be arranged. Students receive some supplies and a<br />

list of additional required supplies at the first class.<br />

DRAWING STUDIO<br />

This class for students of different levels of drawing<br />

experience focuses on skill development through<br />

the exploration of materials and techniques.<br />

Working from observation of the still life, clothed<br />

model, and the world around us, students improve<br />

skills and develop personal imagery and expressive<br />

style. A list of supplies is provided at the first class.<br />

TEEN HANDiWORK:<br />

DESIGN YOUR OWN MITTENS<br />

Saturday, October 15 and 22, 1pm – 4pm<br />

Location: 1st Floor Make Room EAC<br />

In this two-day workshop for ages 13 to 18, teens will<br />

create one-of-a-kind mittens, working from repurposed<br />

wool using hand sewing techniques. The first day will<br />

be devoted to the design of the mittens and cutting of<br />

the pattern, the second day will be devoted to sewing<br />

the pieces together. Each pair of mittens will be a<br />

singular design bearing the mark of the maker.<br />
