FASHION AND TEXTILES<br />

Welcome to the EAC’s new Make Room, where<br />

fashion takes on other art forms and finds a home<br />

on the first floor. Equipped with sewing machines,<br />

tables, dress forms, and more, our new array of<br />

classes dedicated to fashion, body, and the garment<br />

offer a haven for fashionistas and students of all<br />

levels who want to make room for this art form in<br />

their lives.<br />

INTRO FASHION<br />

Location: Make Room 1st floor EAC<br />

Explore basic design skills while working with a<br />

variety of material. Learn how all the equipment<br />

functions and their roles in constructing a garment.<br />

This is an overview of the practical (pattern reading)<br />

and the theoretical in garment construction with<br />

several scheduled field trips including to a fabric<br />

store and a fashion resource center.<br />

TEXTILES MEET METALS:<br />

WEARABLE ART<br />

Location: Make Room 1st Floor EAC and Jewelry<br />

Studio, Noyes<br />

Create your own piece of wearable art. Try this<br />

class that is a mixture of textiles and metal. Begin<br />

by making a simple half apron, a skirt, or dress, in<br />

whatever textile you choose and then make just one<br />

piece of jewelry that would match it. Multi-level.<br />

New fashion classes for both middle-schoolers and<br />

high-schoolers also will take place in the Make Room<br />

including the Fashion Look Book design class, the<br />

Fashion Show class that includes design and full<br />

Master the basics of painting with “light” by cutting<br />

glass, foiling and soldering. Learn how to make<br />

an abstract piece from scrap glass, follow a ready<br />

pattern and create your own piece of art. Some<br />

supplies will be provided and students will get an<br />

additional list of supplies at the first class.<br />

MOSAICS<br />

Location: 2 North EAC<br />

Broken ceramic tiles, art glass and found objects<br />

are your materials. Clipping tiles, adhering them to<br />

indoor and outdoor surfaces and grouting will be<br />

your learned techniques. Students will experiment<br />

with color, pattern and pictorial elements—the<br />

foundation for exploring design. Slides and<br />

hands-on demonstrations included.<br />

Similar to collage, but three-dimensional,<br />

assemblage is a process that transforms found<br />

objects into sculptures and reliefs. A flexible<br />

discipline, the works can be small or large, abstract<br />

or representational, soft or rigid. Come prepared<br />

the first day with a collection of objects you want<br />

to incorporate, from old frames to broken watches.<br />

Learn through slide images what’s currently<br />

happening in the field.<br />

MIXED MEDIA ASSEMBLAGE<br />

Location: 2 North EAC<br />

Create unique three dimensional assemblage art<br />

with regular and non-traditional materials—such as<br />

found objects and images, plastic and fabric scraps,<br />

toys, buttons, wire, metal or wood. Incorporate<br />

those random things you have been collecting to<br />

construct sculptural environment and narratives<br />

Kurt Schwitters or Joseph Cornwell. Composition,<br />

alternative techniques, cold connecting, and tool<br />

usage will be addressed.<br />

SCULPTURE, DEPTHS, DEMENSIONS<br />

Location: YFA South EAC<br />

Bring your ideas to life by transforming them into<br />

three-dimensional works of art. Learn to build<br />

armatures and work in a variety of unconventional<br />

materials such as wire, plaster, wax, gauze, non-toxic<br />

adhesives, nature, fabrics, found materials, hardware<br />

mediums and more. Students develop concepts for<br />

their sculptures through maintaining a sketchbook<br />

and joining in on class discussions. Students will have<br />

the opportunity to view contemporary sculpture<br />

through field trips and slide presentations.<br />
