Get off to a
good start
Your first
move sets up
your swing
In recent months, I have made
a major change to my swing.
I used to have a tendency to
drag the clubhead inside at
the start of the backswing,
causing me to overswing and
get ‘handsy’ through impact.
Now I focus on keeping my
arms, shoulders and clubshaft
working away in one piece.
As a result, my swing is more
on plane, I have a more compact
and controlled swing,
and I simply rotate my body
through impact to square the
face. It feels like cheating!
NO!
Dragging the club too far inside at the
start of the backswing caused problems
with my swing plane and forced me to
rely too heavily on good timing.
yes!
When the hands, arms and shaft work
away together, I don’t have to make
compensations in my swing. My technique
is simpler and more efficient.
>> 3. Thanks to my improved takeaway, my backswing is more compact than in previous years. The clubshaft is parallel to the ground and square to
the target. >> 4. Approaching impact, the clubshaft is still square to the target . >> 5. I rotate my body to square the clubface at impact and extend the club
down the target line as long as possible. >>6. Not the most photogenic follow-through you’ll ever see in Callaway Golf Magazine, but it works!
