Rapid EIA Studies of 3 Pre-identified Hazardous Waste Disposal Sites in NCT - Delhi: Page No.48 4.3 HYDROLOGY & HYDRO-GEOLOGY 4.3.1 Surface Water & Drainage System The major portion of NCT- Delhi is being drained by Najafgarh drain leading to Yamuna River. Other than Najafgarh drain there are about sixteen more drains joining river Yamuna in NCT - Delhi. These drains mainly carry the urban sewage and industrial effluents. Fig 4.10 depicts the drainage system in NCT - Delhi. The relief and soil conditions cause localised stagnation during rainy season. During high rains and high floods in Yamuna River, the drainage system becomes ineffective as the outlets of rainwater blocked. Drainage system around the proposed sites Site I: Site I i.e Bawana industry relocation site is drained by Bawana escape & Ghoga drain. These drains meet Daryapur drain which finally flows into river Yamuna. Fig 4.11 depicts the drainage system around the Bawana relocation industrial site. Site II: Site II i.e Wazirpur CETP site lies within the city block which is having sewerage system. Fig 4.12 depicts the drainage system around the Wazirpur CETP site. Najafgarh drain No. 8 flows south of the site around 3 - 4 km away. Another Supplementary drain flows north of the site around 4 - 5 km away. Site III: Fig 4.13 depicts the drainage system around the proposed site near village Guman Hera. Site III located near village Guma Hera is drained mostly by Najafgarh drain No. 8. Najafgarh drain flows adjacent to the proposed site. Environment Division, National Productivity Council, New Delhi 4
