Annex I, Page No vi 0.2 Bad (1) Landuse: Existing Landuse: The existing land cover depicts the economic importance of the site. Less the economic importance of the site more suitability of the site for waste disposal site development. Following scale has been developed for ranking the sites from existing landuse considerations: • Proposed Land use: Existing Landuse Evaluation (Relative Value) Wasteland/saline Excellent (5) Grazing/Fallow Ideal (4) Single Crop/non-irrigated Good (3) Double Crop/irrigated Poor (2) Plantation Bad (1) The proposed land use around the sites by the local development authority is another major consideration for evaluation of the sites. If any sort of development is envisaged by the development authority nearby the site, then the site should not be preferred. If the area around the site has the potentiality for development then the relative value of 1 i.e. bad has to be given otherwise a relative value of 5 i.e. excellent has to be assigned. • Impact of Waste Transportation: The transportation of waste poses threat to the areas through it passes. A site, which poses minimum threat to the health by virtue of its traffic linkage, should be considered as ideal site. Any site due to which there is possibility of increased exposure of the wastes to the population have to be assigned a relative value of 1 otherwise 5. • Special Ecological Features: Areas surrounding the site with special ecological features such as habitation endangered species should be avoided for waste disposal site development. The sites were given a relative value of 1 if close to such areas other wise 5.
Annex II, Page No i Annexure – 2 Preliminary Visit Reports Site I: Bawana Industrial Area Relocation Site A site visit was made on 17.01.2002 in order to assess the prima facie suitability of the above-proposed site. Mr Shyam Lal DSIDC Junior Engineer The description of site is as follows: SITE - 1 : Bawana Industrial Area Relocation Site The proposed site is located within Bawana Industrial Area closed to CETP. The site falls between the Ghoga drain and the Bawana Escape. The main access road to the site is the road going to Sanoth village on the right side of the Bawana -Narela road. This road is almost opposite to the 91 MLD water treatment plant of Delhi Jal Board (DJB) located on the left side. The site is situated almost 18 km from Samai pur Badli. The total area of the site proposed for the development of hazardous waste disposal facility is 15 acres. A 220 KV high-tension line passes through the site. The site has flat topography and the soil is observed to be mixture of yellow and grey colour. The ground water table closed to the site is observed/reported to be around 1 meter below the existing ground level as some excavation work for bridge was in progress. There are some trees mainly eucalyptuses on and near the site. Towards the
