Further, the area available at site III is sufficient for developing a secured landfill facilty for 15 years life. Also additional area around the site could be procured for extension of the facility. Therefore site III located near village Guman Hera is recommended for development of secured landfill facility for disposal of hazardous waste generated from approved industrial estates/areas of NCT - Delhi. However, as "no site can be perfect", the mitigation measures have been proposed to mitigate the adverse environmental impacts. Accordingly, Environmental Management Plan (EMP) has been prepared which shall be followed at the sites for disposal of hazardous waste in environmentally sound manner. The mitigation measures to be taken are summarised in the following action points: - Environment Division, National Productivity Council, New Delhi 7
Rapid EIA Studies of 3 Pre-identified Hazardous Waste Disposal Sites in NCT - Delhi Page No.147 Κ Κ Κ Κ Κ Κ Provide Protective Gears (such as Full sleeve apron, gumboots, mask, Gloves etc) to workers Training to workers for safe handling of wastes. Leachate collection, treatment and disposal (systematic collection and treatment of the leachate generated in the landfill facility). Periodic Environmental Quality monitoring for ground water and ambient air around site. Green belt development surrounding the facility in order to abate air & noise pollution and to reduce the storm water drainage. Periodic water spray in order to suppress dust while carrying out excavation and construction activities After implementation of proposed EMP and mitigation measures, the disposal of hazardous waste at the recommended site shall be considered as environmentally sound process as it will care of the following: • Ground water and soil protection through the provisions of an impermeable base of the facility, lined drain and disposal of non compatible waste in different cells. • Surface water protection through diversion of surface run-on and installation of leachate treatment plant. ----------------------- Environment Division, National Productivity Council, New Delhi 7
