Rapid EIA Studies of 3 Pre-identified Hazardous Waste Disposal Sites in NCT - Delhi Page No.128 (5) Spreading, compaction & consolidation of the waste. ♦ After unloading the waste at the landfill site, it has to be compacted immediately in order to prevent blowing away of particulate matter with the wind. ♦ Solid waste has to be unloaded and compacted only in the secured landfill facility systematically as per the operation plan for the secured landfill. (6) Green Belt around the waste disposal site All peripheral area can be planted with avenue and air purifier trees like, Neem (Azadirachta india), Bauhinia sp. Sehtoot - Morus alba, Eucalyptus sp, Peltophorum - pterocarpum, Siris - Albizzia lebbek, Shisham - Dalbergion sissoo, Kachnar - Bauhinia sp., Moringa oliefera, Gmelima arboria, Amaltas - Cassia pistula ♦ Flowering plants – Ashoka Longifolia, Ficus benjaming, Ficus cristata Normally, climatically adopted tree species can be planned in the inner circle followed by following plants in the middle circle; where as, if space is available then fruit trees can be put on the outer circle making a green belt around the site. (7) Leachate/wastewater collection & treatment ♦ Leachate/wastewater has to be pumped to leachate treatment plant from the leachate collection sump regularly. All the leakages at pump and transfer lines have to be sealed. (8) Stormwater collection and treatment ♦ Storm water should not be allowed to mix with the leachate. Separate collection and treatment system should be provided. (9) Closing of the landfill ♦ ♦ ♦ For closing of the completed landfill cell, excavated soil from the next cell has to be used. Periodic water has to be sprayed to suppress any dust emissions. Unnecessary movement of heavy machinery has to be restricted. (10) Monitoring of the landfill ♦ Regular monitoring of ground water and ambient air around the landfill has to be done. The monitoring stations have to be established up-stream and down-stream of the facility. ♦ Immediate remedial measures have to be taken, if any kind of pollution is noticed.
