Rapid EIA Studies of 3 Pre-identified Hazardous Waste Disposal Sites in NCT - Delhi Page No.127 Outcome of Weighted Impact Analysis without Mitigation Measures As per the developed criteria, the waste management facility has been rated as less adversely impacting facility. However, certain mitigation measures have been recommended in order to minimise the impact on the environment. 7.4.4 Mitigation Measures In order to minimise the adverse environmental impacts arising out of the various activities pertaining to the development and operation of the waste management facility the following mitigation measures have been recommended. (1) Excavation/ soil filling. ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ Periodic spray of water to suppress dust. Restriction of unnecessary movement of heavy machinery. Use the extra excavated soil to fill low lying areas. Develop green belt surrounding the site. (2) Construction of bottom liner, cover liner and drainage system. ♦ Spray of water to suppress dust. (3) Construction of buildings for personnel facilities, maintenance shop, washing area. ♦ Spray water to suppress the dust while excavation is going on. ♦ Use construction waste for filling low lying areas in the vicinity of the site. (4) Loading/Unloading and transportation of waste ♦ Dumpers/ tractors used for shifting waste should be checked for leakages. If leakages are found, they have to be sealed. ♦ After loading the waste, it has to be covered tightly with PVC sheet in order to prevent spillage and blowing of the waste ♦ Regular health checks have to be carried out for the labourers, who are involved directly or indirectly in the shifting of the waste. Labourers should be provided with masks, rubber gloves and gum-boots. Environment Division, National Productivity Council, New Delhi 7
