Rapid EIA Studies of 3 Pre-identified Hazardous Waste Disposal Sites in NCT - Delhi Page No.136 Table 5.5: Summarised evaluation of Sites (Locational Criteria) Site CPCB Criteria MOEF Guideline International Criteria Bawana relocation al industrial site Conforms to all Conforms to all Wazirpur CETP site Old Bawana site Guman Hera site Conforms all Conforms all to to Conforms to all Does not conform to - • The site shall be more than 25 Km away from ecologically and or other sensitive areas • The site shall be 25 km away from the projected growth boundary of the settlement for (atleast a decade) • 1/2 km away from railway line or highway • The site shall be more than 25 Km away from ecologically and or other sensitive areas • The site shall be 25 km away from the projected growth boundary of the settlement for (atleast a decade) Conforms to all Conforms to all . Conforms to all 5.3 DETAILED SITE INVESTIGATION 5.3.1 Site Investigation The detailed site investigations were carried out as per requirement of CPCB and MOEF with respect to the relevant parameters for all the three sites mentioned above. Primary Source data Preliminary field visits were carried out to assess the suitability of sites for detailed investigation. Subsequently detailed investigation of sites were carried out as follows: • Landuse Plan: Landuse/Landcover maps within 5-Km radius from the proposed sites were prepared using remote sensing method based on satellite data of IRS - ID LISS III and confirmed with ground truthing. • Geotechnical investigation: At each site, to a depth of 20m below the ground surface 100 - 150 mm diameter bore hole was drilled using shell and auger method. Undisturbed/disturbed soil samples were collected and analysed for following: (i) soil type and stratification; (ii) permeability of each strata, (iii) strength and compressibility parameters (optional)-, (iv) ground water level and quality and (v) depth to bedrock. • Ambient air monitoring/Noise monitoring: Ambient air monitoring (SPM, SOx, NOx level) was carried out at the proposed sites during February - March, 2002. Noise levels during day and night at the site were also monitored. Environment Division, National Productivity Council, New Delhi 5

Rapid EIA Studies of 3 Pre-identified Hazardous Waste Disposal Sites in NCT - Delhi Page No.137 • Groundwater/surface water monitoring: Surface water from different streams, canals, major drains falling within 5 km radius from the site were collected and analysed in the laboratory for pH, BOD, COD, TSS, Heavy metals, TDS, F - . Groundwater samples were collected from dug wells, handpumps, tube wells from different locations within 5 km radius from the proposed site. The groundwater samples were also analysed for the above mentioned parameters. Also results of surface water/ groundwater monitoring done at different locations in NCT - Delhi by other agencies like SIMA Laboratory, CPCB/CGWB were compared. Secondary Source data: These data were collected from various Government departments/agencies: • Topography • Soils • Transportation routes • Water use Plan • Groundwater • Geology • Flood plains • Wind direction & velocity 5.3.2 Ranking of Proposed Sites Proposed sites were ranked on the basis of the ranking system stipulated by MOEF (1991) and given in table 5.6 through 5.9. Similarly, the evaluation of sites as per the criteria adapted by NPC followed internationally is given in table 5.10 through 5.13. Environment Division, National Productivity Council, New Delhi 5
