Rapid EIA Studies of 3 Pre-identified Hazardous Waste Disposal Sites in NCT - Delhi: 4.15 FOREST AREA Page No.122 Only Bawana old site falls under protected forest area. Bawana Forest is about 1 km from the proposed site. The other three sites do not fall under any notified forest area. 4.16 NATURAL HAZARDS Natural hazards comprises of flood, 4.36 shows the natural hazards in NCT- Delhi. • Flood prone areas There are two types of flood plain, one older flood plain and other newer flood plain as shown in Fig 4.19. Older flood plain has erosional characteristics whereas newer flood plain has depositional characteristic. The older flood plain of Yamuna is prone to annual and periodic floods. The areas most affected are west of Shahadra in trans Yamuna area and between Narela - Wazirabad and Redfort - Okhala barrage in the cis Yamuna area. Fig 4.36 shows area prone to annual floods and areas prone to occasional floods. None of the proposed sites fall under any of these flood plains. • Water logged areas and other unstable lands Fig 4.37 shows the seasonally/perennially water logged / tract in NCT- Delhi. Water logging is a common phenomenon in the immediate vicinity of canal and large fluvial features e.g. near Model Town, Adarsh Nagar etc. Fig 4.37 also shows zones having saline brackish ground water, bad land, groundwater overdraft zones , etc. All the four proposed sites fall outside these zones. • Siesmicity NCT of Delhi is categorised in the seismic zone IV as shown in Fig 4.38. Zone IV is charaterised by a significantly high intensity of seismic activities. This class has a fairly high probability of earthquake shocks measuring 5 - 6 on the richter scale, low probability of shocks of 6 - 7 on the richter scale and, occasional occurrence of shocks of 7 - 8 on the richter scale. Fig 4.39 shows the epicentre of few of the past earthquake shocks occurred in NCT - Delhi. Environment Division, National Productivity Council, New Delhi 4
