Rapid EIA Studies of 3 Pre-identified Hazardous Waste Disposal Sites in NCT - Delhi: Page No.86 Following inference can be drawn from the results obtained: (i) Based on the soil characteristics, the subsoil can be divided into following different strata: • Strata I: (From ground level upto a depth of 5.5m). It consists predominantly of fine grained soils i.e. clayey silt of medium plasticity (CI), sandy silt of low plasticity (CL) & sandy silt (ML). • Strata II: (From 5.5m to 11.0 m depth below ground level). It consists predominantly of coarse grained soils i.e, silty sand (SM/SP-SM). • Strata III: (From depth 11.0 to 19.4 m below ground level). It consists predominantly of fine grained soils i.e. clayey silt of low plasticity (CL) & sandy silt of low plasticity (CL/ML-CL). • Strata IV: (From depth 19.4 to 20.4 m below ground level). It consists of silt sand. (ii) (iii) The coefficient of permeability ranged from 4.4 x 10 -6 to 6.7 x 10 -7 cm/sec for low to medium plastic soils comprising of clayey silt of low to medium plasticity (CI/CL) & sandy silt of low plasticity (CL/ML-CL). However for nonplastic soils comprising of silty sand (SM/SP-SM) & sandy silt (ML) the coefficient permeability ranged from 1.6 x 10 -4 to 4.8 x 10 -4 cm/sec. Fig 4.23 depicts the variation of permeability in different strata. The groundwater was encountered at 4.5 m depth from existing ground level. Site II: Wazirpur CETP Site: The geotechnical investigation of the site was carried out from 27.02.2002 to 01.03.2002. The test results are tabulated in table 4.14 below.
