Rapid EIA Studies of 3 Pre-identified Hazardous Waste Disposal Sites in NCT - Delhi: 4.6 GEOTECHNICAL INVESTIGATION Page No.82 Geotechnical properties of the proposed sites were assessed as per the criteria laid down by CPCB ( refer Chapter III, section ). Following procedure was adopted for geotechnical investigation of the sites: • A bore hole of 100 – 150 mm diameter below existing ground surface through normal soil i.e sandy, clayey strata ( excluding hard/boudary/rock) using shell and auger method was drilled at the proposed sites up to 20 m depth below existing ground surface. Photoplate 11, 12, 13 & 14 shows drilling arrangement at Wazirpur and Guman Hera site. • Undisturbed soil samples were collected at 1.5 m interval in depth or change of strata whichever occurred earlier using straight open end sampling tubes fitted to an adapter with ball and socket arrangement and using a standard SPT set up. • Similarly disturbed soil samples were collected at regular interval in depth. • The depth of groundwater table in the bore hole whenever encountered, was recorded. • The soil samples collected were analysed for following: - Soil type and stratification - Permeability test for each strata Site I: Bawana relocation Industry Site: The geotechnical investigation of the site was carried out from 23.02.2002 to 25.02.2002. The test results are tabulated in table 4.13 below. Environment Division, National Productivity Council, New Delhi 4
