Tatum's dog, was little but he had big ideas which usually<br />

carried him straight into mischief. This story tells about<br />

family.

he gets a beagle puppy named Lucy, who helps him to make<br />

Finney, Patricia. I, Jack. 2004. Jack, a Labrador<br />

Retriever, tells about his daily life of food, walks, and<br />

the "apedogs" and "funny-looking dogs" (cats) in his pack,<br />

as well as how everything changes when a pretty girl dog<br />

moves into the neighborhood.<br />

Bungee the dog leaves her house among the dark green firs<br />

to sail on the Gypsy Rover to Tahiti and beyond.


Gardiner, J. R. Stone Fox. 1980. Rocky Mountain story of<br />

a boy and his dog and his need to have his dog win a<br />

dogsled race.<br />

Herriot, James. Only One Woof. 1985. Gyp, a sweet but<br />

silent sheepdog, is content to cheerfully accompany his<br />

master on his rounds of chores and to frolic with other<br />

animals, never uttering a sound. When he attends the<br />

sheepdog championship and sees his brother Sweep for the<br />

first time since they were pups, his uncharacteristic<br />

response surprises all.<br />

George, Jean Craighead. Cliffhanger. 2002. Despite the<br />

dangers of a thunderstorm, Axel and his father make a<br />

difficult climb to rescue Axel's stranded dog.<br />

Herzig, Alison Cragin. The Big Deal. 1992. Sam's<br />

parent's agree to let him have a puppy if he will take care<br />

of it, but as the puppy grows into an enormous dog, Sam<br />

isn't certain that he can keep his end of the deal.<br />

Hesse, Karen. Sable. 1994. Tate Marshall is delighted<br />

when a stray dog turns up in the yard one day, but Sable,<br />

named for her dark, silky fur, causes trouble with the<br />

neighbors and has to go.<br />

Hinton, S. E. The Puppy Sister. 1995. A young boy is<br />

astonished when his new puppy begins to change into a human<br />

girl who says to him, “I love you, brother!”<br />

Howe, James. Howie Monroe and the <strong>Dog</strong>house of Doom. 2002.<br />

Continuing his search for fame as a writer, Howie the wirehaired<br />

dachshund creates a story remarkably similar to the<br />

popular one he has heard about a heroic boy wizard.<br />

wirehaired dachshund tries his paw at writing a new kind of<br />

novel, a mystery in which he imagines himself as a private<br />

investigator and Delilah as the "mysterious dame".<br />

just the right name for the new dog.<br />

Jordan, Sarah Clark. The BossQueen, Little BigBark, and<br />

the Sentinal Pup. 2004. Young Mina must find her place in<br />

the order of things when she and the two older dogs move<br />

with OurShe into a different house, where the new members<br />

sure he'll never want another dog, but a stray he finds on<br />

the way home from school changes his mind.<br />

Wellington, a Carvalier King Charles Spaniel, gives an<br />

has to give up her life-long dream of getting a puppy after<br />

her parents agree to take in the dog that Great-aunt<br />

Margaret can no longer keep.<br />

terrified of dogs, nine-year-old Sara forces herself to<br />

face a Labrador retriever and a Dalmatian when she must<br />

pet.<br />

messy and destructive - and how to deal with the<br />

situation.<br />

Shaw, Janet Beeler. Kaya and Lone <strong>Dog</strong>, a Friendship Story.<br />

2002. Still grieving over the death of her hero, and<br />

missing her stolen horse and kidnapped younger sister, Kaya<br />

tries to earn the trust of a lone and starving dog who is<br />

detective Samantha Spayed helps her master investigate<br />

industrial espionage at La Maison de Beaute, a woman’s<br />

the story of a dog’s day, from the moment he is abandoned<br />

on the highway until he finds a friend in a young boy.<br />

Voigt, Cynthia. <strong>Stories</strong> About Rosie. 1986. Four humorous<br />

adventures seen through the eyes of Rosie, an irrepressible<br />

and frisky dog.<br />

Voigt, Cynthia. Angus and Sadie. 2005. Angus and Sadie,<br />

two siblings that are of mostly border collie heritage, are<br />

adopted by a young couple and start living on a Maine farm,<br />

where they begin to learn sheep herding and come to<br />

appreciate how they are different from each another.
