This course for parents of early elementary students
will provide helpful guidance and tips on how to help
children develop their reading, writing, and word
knowledge skills. We will cover various strategies
to better equip parents to support their children with
decoding, comprehension, fluency and writing skills
– including fun, easy methods to engage children in
reading and writing activities. Learning to read and write
can be fun and exciting – join us to learn the many ways
you can help! Please note: course includes a 30-minute
one-on-one consultation, to be scheduled with the
instructor once the course has begun, for parents to gain
valuable advice focused on their child’s specific learning
style and issues. Limited to 12.

WRITING & SPEAKING
JUMPSTART YOUR WRITING

This class has a very clear mission: spend more time
writing! Find your voice and boost your creativity
through a series of fun directed writing exercises. We
will discuss published pieces and the process of writing
as a means to exploring new possibilities in subject,
style, and point of view, and how to shape characters
and create great images. Participants will have several
chances to read and receive feedback on the work they
produce, all in a supportive environment. This class is
appropriate for all level of writers working on nonfiction,
memoir, or novels. Please bring a pen and notebook
(or laptop) to class. Limited to 12.

PUBLIC SPEAKING

Learn to become a better speaker in a fun, relaxing,
and supportive environment. We will view and
discuss videos of public speakers both great and
gruesome, use small group practice, and utilize a
variety of speaking exercises designed to fit your
comfort level. Laugh, get compliments, and capitalize
on your strengths as you make your way toward
becoming a confident speaker who can both impress
and inspire. From nervous amateur to polished
professional, we’ll meet you wherever you are to help
you gain confidence, improve your vocal skills, and
use physicality and humor to authentically engage your
