INTRODUCTION TO DIGITAL<br />

Designed for the amateur photographer, this course<br />
will help you develop a basic understanding of digital<br />
cameras and accessories, as well as provide many<br />
practical tips on how to get good results from your<br />
camera under most shooting conditions. Students<br />
should bring their camera (compact or single lens<br />
reflex) and camera manual to class. Topics to be<br />
covered include how digital cameras work, memory<br />
cards, features and benefits of many currently available<br />
digital cameras, use of manual and automatic modes,<br />
lighting and composition, and how to organize, access<br />
and back up images in a computer. We will also<br />
review some common mistakes made by amateur<br />
digital photographers and how to avoid them. Printing<br />
and scanning options will be briefly reviewed and<br />
demonstrated. Also, basic editing will be discussed<br />
and demonstrated. Reference materials, including<br />
all lecture slides from class, will be available online.<br />
Familiarity with Windows or Macintosh operating<br />
systems, while not required, but will be helpful to the<br />
student. Limited to 14.<br />

This course is designed for amateur digital photographers<br />
who would like to learn more about image editing and<br />
creation using Adobe Photoshop or Photoshop Elements.<br />
The course consists of four hands-on image editing<br />
classes using i-Mac computers and Adobe Photoshop<br />
CS3. You will learn how to adjust image size, exposure,<br />
color, sharpness, and other parameters using several<br />
Photoshop tools and techniques, including adjustment<br />
layers, masks, and filters. You will also learn how to<br />
make composite images and montages, selectively<br />
change one portion or element of an image, and add<br />
text to images. Multiple Photoshop shortcuts to enhance<br />
productivity will be demonstrated and discussed, and the<br />
differences between RAW and JPG image formats will<br />
be explained. You will have access to the instructor’s<br />
website which includes several video tutorials addressing<br />
Photoshop techniques. Prerequisite: basic navigation<br />
skills on the computer. It is recommended that students<br />
have taken the Intro. to Digital Photography class or are<br />
comfortable using their cameras. Limited to 12.<br />
