INTRODUCTION TO DIGITAL
PHOTOGRAPHY

Designed for the amateur photographer, this course
will help you develop a basic understanding of digital
cameras and accessories, as well as provide many
practical tips on how to get good results from your
camera under most shooting conditions. Students
should bring their camera (compact or single lens
reflex) and camera manual to class. Topics to be
covered include how digital cameras work, memory
cards, features and benefits of many currently available
digital cameras, use of manual and automatic modes,
lighting and composition, and how to organize, access
and back up images in a computer. We will also
review some common mistakes made by amateur
digital photographers and how to avoid them. Printing
and scanning options will be briefly reviewed and
demonstrated. Also, basic editing will be discussed
and demonstrated. Reference materials, including
all lecture slides from class, will be available online.
Familiarity with Windows or Macintosh operating
systems, while not required, but will be helpful to the
student. Limited to 14.

Assisting Photoshop student
PHOTOSHOP FOR DIGITAL
PHOTOGRAPHERS

This course is designed for amateur digital photographers
who would like to learn more about image editing and
creation using Adobe Photoshop or Photoshop Elements.
The course consists of four hands-on image editing
classes using i-Mac computers and Adobe Photoshop
CS3. You will learn how to adjust image size, exposure,
color, sharpness, and other parameters using several
Photoshop tools and techniques, including adjustment
layers, masks, and filters. You will also learn how to
make composite images and montages, selectively
change one portion or element of an image, and add
text to images. Multiple Photoshop shortcuts to enhance
productivity will be demonstrated and discussed, and the
differences between RAW and JPG image formats will
be explained. You will have access to the instructor’s
website which includes several video tutorials addressing
Photoshop techniques. Prerequisite: basic navigation
skills on the computer. It is recommended that students
have taken the Intro. to Digital Photography class or are
comfortable using their cameras. Limited to 12.
