SCWDS in the news
The Southeastern Cooperative Wildlife
Disease Study (SCWDS) made headlines
for weeks in early January 2011 due to its
investigatory role in the blackbird deaths reported
in both Arkansas and Louisiana. CNN was among
the media on-site the first day that SCWDS
received blackbird samples from Arkansas; the
network broadcasted live shots from SCWDS
for about three hours that afternoon. Later that
same week, The Associated Press sent a one-man
crew to do a story that was sent out on its state,
national and international wires and posted on
its website for access by AP-member broadcast
outlets worldwide.
