UPHOLSTERY

If you’ve put up with old, tired upholstery because
of the expense of hiring a professional, then join
this class and learn to do-it-yourself, and create a
beautiful, “like-new” piece of furniture. The class will
focus on reupholstering a chair (small chairs are
recommended, since they will need to be brought to
and from each class). Learn all the steps of upholstery,
including stripping the chair, choosing and determining
the amount of fabric, and making cushions. Bring
tack hammer, tack puller, good scissors, pliers, and
chair to the first class. Note: it is recommended that
the upholstery tools be purchased at New England
Upholstery Supplies in Quincy or at the Fabric Place
Basement in Natick. Instructions on purchasing fabric
will be provided in class. Some basic sewing skills
are recommended since some upholstery projects
will involve sewing. (Use the back entrance to Pollard
Middle School, off of Bradford St. Park in back lot, and
enter through doors near the gyms.) Limited to 12.

SEWING FUN-DAMENTALS

Have you always wanted to learn machine sewing
If so, join us for this beginning class, designed for
those with little or no experience. We will make a
stylish shoulder bag that is large enough to carry an
iPad or tablet and includes a zippered pocket. Please
stop into the shop for the materials list and pick out
your fabrics and notions a few days before the class
begins; note that course fee does not include cost
of materials. You will also be able to see a sample
of the project in the shop. You can also download
the materials list from the store website www.
buttonboxsewing.com. Limited to 10.

NEW
MOSAIC WORKSHOP
Michel L’Huillier, Instructor
This workshop will teach you the basics of the
mosaic process, which incorporates pieces of glass
or ceramic with grout. During the first class, you will
learn to cut glass and sketch a design to fit a 10” by
10” base. You can then refine the design at home if
needed before the second class. During the second
class, you will choose your glass, and cut and glue
the pieces on the base. At the third and final class,
you will grout, clean and finish your mosaic piece. A
materials fee of $45 is payable to the instructor at the
first class for all of the materials needed and use of
the tools. Students are encouraged to bring to class
any pieces of glass, ceramic or broken china of their
own they would like to incorporate into their piece.
Students should bring a sketchpad and safety glasses
to class, and be sure to wear closed-toed shoes.
Limited to 15.
