LOCAL EDUCATOR NAMED MIDDLE LEVEL PRINCIPAL OF THE YEAR STATEWIDE West Allegheny resident, Dr. Gregory A. Taranto, principal of Canonsburg Middle School in the Canon-McMillan School District, has been selected as the 2012 PAESSP Middle Level Principal of the Year in the MetLife/National Association of Secondary School Principals (NASSP) Principal of the Year Program. Dr. Taranto has been a school administrator for nine years and has been principal of Canonsburg Middle School for seven years. Canonsburg Middle School was named the 2011 Pennsylvania Don Eichhorn and National Schools to Watch Middle School in May 2011. He resides in the community with his wife, Melissa Taranto, who teaches physical education at Donaldson Elementary, and their three children, who all attend the West Allegheny schools. A BIG THANK YOU FROM VFW POST 7714 LADIES AUXILIARY The Montour Valley VFW Post 7714 Ladies Auxiliary thanks the following local businesses and their patrons for their help in its 2012 Buddy Poppy Campaign by raising money for disabled veterans through donations and poppy distribution: White Viper Karate Studio, Advanced Auto Parts, Kings Family Restaurant, Garden of Eating Pizza, Angelia’s Pizza, Hair Topics, Mario Di Carlo’s Pizza, The Inn Place, Nadik’s Garage, Marathon at Tonidale, The Pub at Tonidale, Grab’n’Go, First Commonwealth Bank, Essex Beer, and Downey’s House. These little red flowers are assembled by disabled veterans. Any money raised during the campaign is given back to Veterans Affairs earmarked for disabled veterans.
