On the move to
improve
Nottingham’s
neighbourhoods
Our work to take down and re-build hundreds of
homes in Nottingham is moving on quickly.
Already tenants and leaseholders from Highurst
Court in Radford have moved out – and those
living in Clifford Court, Radford, Lenton Court and
some tenants who live in the ‘Crosswall’ flats in the
Meadows are in the process of moving out.
Timetable of works
They’ve all managed to find a new home in the
city and – with help from our Relocation Support
Team – are settling in nicely.
In the autumn we sent a newsletter to all residents
who are affected by our demolition and re-building
programme. It contained lots of information about
the process, the support we are offering and the
latest timetable for the work (see below).
This is a huge project – the biggest of its kind in a generation. So the timetable might change.
Lenton high-rise flats
We’re now helping tenants in Lenton Court to find new homes – we’re aiming to finish that by
the end of the year. The rehousing of tenants at Digby Court has started and will be followed by
Abbey Court next summer and Willoughby Court later in 2013.
Re-housing of residents living in Newgate Court will begin early 2015.
Demolition of the five blocks will follow in the same order as the re-housing – starting with
Lenton Court early in 2013.
Construction of the first new homes will start on site in summer 2013, completing March 2017.
The Meadows ‘crosswall’ flats
The demolition of the flats will be in two stages. Residents have already been informed if they
fall into stage one or stage two.
Re-housing has started and will be completed by the end of the year. Demolition will start at the
end of the year and is due to be completed by spring 2013.
The Meadows ‘Q-blocks’
Demolition of the ‘Q-blocks’ will begin towards the end of the city-wide rebuilding programme.
Consultation with residents and local tenant groups has begun.
Cranwell Road ‘crosswall’ flats, Strelley
The emptying, re-housing and demolition of the flats will be in two stages. We’re writing to
residents closer to the time to let them know which stage they’re in. Re-housing of residents will
begin summer 2013, followed by the demolition of the flats.
Hints and tips to save you
money and live a ‘greener’ life.
By now we’ll have had a fair few frosty
nights – and the temptation is to turn the
thermostat up.
But you don’t always have to turn up the
heating. Before you do, put on a jumper – you
don’t need to walk round the house in t-shirts
all year round.
If you are too warm – turn the heating down
a bit instead of opening the windows to bring
the temperature down.
Use your radiators to heat your home – not
a gas or electric fire. And don’t dry clothes
by putting them on radiators – use a clothes
horse instead.
Another way of saving money is to only set
your heating to turn on 30 minutes before you
get up in the morning – and time it to go off
about an hour before you go to bed at night.
Over Christmas, use low energy LED fairy
lights for decorations – they use a fraction of
the energy of standard fairy lights. And don’t
forget to switch them off at night.
Apologies for the telephone number misprint in the last issue.
Be fire safe
this Christmas
1. Check that the fuses in your fairy lights
are the right type
2. If a bulb blows, replace it
3. Always switch your fairy lights off
when you go to sleep
4. Don’t let the bulbs touch anything that
burns easily – such as paper or plastic
5. Don’t overload power sockets
6. Decorations made of tissue paper or
card can easily burn – keep them away
from lit candles and don’t attach them
to lights or heaters.
