PAUL TONER NAMED GENERAL MANAGER OF<br />
<strong>JW</strong> MARRIOTT IHILANI RESORT & SPA AT KO OLINA, OAHU<br />
Honolulu, Hawaii – February 6, 2012 - <strong>Marriott</strong> International, Inc. (NYSE:MAR) has<br />
announced the appointment of Paul Toner as general manager of the <strong>JW</strong> <strong>Marriott</strong> <strong>Ihilani</strong><br />
<strong>Resort</strong> & <strong>Spa</strong> at Ko Olina on Oahu. Toner assumed his new post January 14,<br />
succeeding Dan Banchiu who is retiring after 32 years<br />
with the company.<br />
Most recently Toner was senior vice president and chief<br />
operating officer of Rock<strong>Resort</strong>s and Vail <strong>Resort</strong>s<br />
Hospitality, which he joined in 2008 following many years<br />
as a senior executive with <strong>Marriott</strong> International in the<br />
Hawaiian Islands.<br />
“We are pleased to have Paul return to Hawaii,” said Chris Tatum, <strong>Marriott</strong> International<br />
area vice president of Hawaii, Northern California, Pacific Northwest and Utah. “He<br />
brings extensive hospitality experience in luxury properties from both national and<br />
international arenas, and an intimate knowledge of the Islands having spent 15 years<br />
managing sales and marketing efforts for our Hawaii hotels and resorts.”<br />
At the 387-room <strong>JW</strong> <strong>Marriott</strong> <strong>Ihilani</strong> <strong>Resort</strong> & <strong>Spa</strong>, Toner will oversee and direct all<br />
aspects of the day-to-day management and operations of the AAA Four-Diamond resort<br />
hotel.<br />

Toner began his tenure in Hawaii in 1989 in the sales discipline at the Maui <strong>Marriott</strong><br />
<strong>Resort</strong> at Kaanapali. In 1994, he moved to Kauai where he became area director of<br />
marketing at the Kauai <strong>Marriott</strong> <strong>Resort</strong> and Beach Club. In 1998, he was promoted area<br />
director of marketing for <strong>Marriott</strong> based in Hong Kong overseeing Central Asia and<br />
Hawaii. Due to the growth of <strong>Marriott</strong> in the Hawaiian Islands he opened up <strong>Marriott</strong>’s<br />
Pacific Islands Regional Office in Honolulu. In 2007 Paul moved again to Hong Kong as<br />
vice president of sales and marketing for <strong>Marriott</strong> International’s Asia Pacific Region,<br />
which included Hawaii. He also spent two years, from 1992-1994, serving as director of<br />
sales and marketing for the Hyatt Regency Kauai and the Hyatt Regency Maui.<br />
Toner joined <strong>Marriott</strong> in 1985 as a sales manager at the Key Bridge <strong>Marriott</strong> Hotel in<br />
Washington, D.C. He has also held a variety of sales and marketing positions at the<br />
Boston Long Wharf <strong>Marriott</strong>, and the Orlando World Center <strong>Marriott</strong> in Florida.<br />
Toner earned a bachelor of science degree from Saint Joseph’s University in<br />
Philadelphia, Penn. In his leisure time, he enjoys triathlons (completing the 2010 Kona<br />
Ironman) and other outdoor pursuits. Paul is married – his wife Tamara is from Kauai –<br />
and he has 3 daughters.<br />
