CAMPUS
can help spread the news of
the happenings here at Ohio
Kappa. Widi the Fraternity's
150-year anniversary in 1998
and the chapter's 50 year anniversary
in 2000, the upcoming
years for the chapter
promise to be years fuU of
remembering the past and
looking toward the future. The
brothers of Ohio Kappa thank
all of you for your continued
support of Phi Deha Theta at
Bowling Green State University.
Illinois lota
Eastern Illinois University
Illinois Iota chapter at Eastern
Illinois has just come out
of a period of shrinking
membership. This faU, the
chapter started with only 4
members and some local
alumni support. There were
not enough fimds to pay the
chapter's liability insurance by
the Oct. 1 deadline, so the
charter was suspended temporarily.
The chapter members
worked together to raise fimds
for insurance, and through the
use of credit card applications
and a home-made spaghetti
dinner that was delivered by
the Phi Delts to die EIU campus,
the members raised
nearly $700 in a period of two
weeks. The insurance bill was
paid, the charter was reinstated,
and the chapter is now
moving in a positive direction
with 12 members. We're glad
to be back in action!
Oregon Gamma
Willamette
We have had a great semester
here at Willamette beginning
in the first week of
school when we hosted the
first annual Lou Gehrig softball
tournament. Many members
put forth tremendous
amounts of effort this summer
in order to make the
tournament a success. We had
perfect weather, an excellent
turnout, and we raised more
than $700 dollars for the Oregon
School for the Blind. We
also participated in numerous
other community service
projects this semester including
a great txu-nout for the
Salem Outreach Shelter. We
initiated two enthusiastic
members into Oregon
Gamma this fall. They are going
to be wonderful additions
to our chapter for many years
and are both holding offices
in the chapter next semester.
We also hosted many very
successful rush events, and we
are very optimistic about the
upcoming rush week.
Quebec Alpha
McGill University
The fall 1997 semester was
one of the turning points in
the history of our chapter. We
were extremely active in college
Ufe, both on and off campus.
We met students from all
different faculties and promoted
the Fraternity using
B.B.Q.s, yard sales, information
sessions and a highly
successful smoker. The brothers
were also active in community
service. Serving up
Thanksgiving diimer at one
of the local hospitals has been
our tradition. We were determined
to go out and meet as
many people as possible to
tell them what really this
brotherhood stands for.
After an intensvie recruitment
campaign spearheaded
by our Rush Chairman Avram
Joseph, our chapter inducted
six new Phikeia. David
Azerrad , Brian Ker , Justin
Rapa, Idan Razon, Ravi
Subramanian, and Eric Waters
are the new pledges. The
chapter also acknowledges the
visit from Province President
Michael Dimn and invites all
alumni to get in contact with
us at (514) 844-PHIS. It's been
quite a busy semester for
Quebec Alpha.
Ohio Eta
Case Western
Reserve University
Thus far, die fall 1997 semester
has proven to be a
very productive one for the
brothers of Ohio Eta.
The fruits of our labors are
vividly displayed in our rush
excellence this fall. Ohio Eta
has bid ten new Phikeia who
are proving to be men well
worth continuing the excellence
of Ohio Eta. The Phikeia
seem eager to meet the challenge
of our pledge program
and to be fully included in
our brotherhood.
The Intramural All-Sports
trophy will stay in the Phi
Dek house at Case Western
Reserve University if the
brothers keep up the pace
they have set. So far we have
won the IM track meet and
finished as champions once
again in IM fraternity football.
Soccer season is about to
start, and the brothers are not
willing to accept anything but
another championship from
this outing.
Finally, this fall has brought
a considerable involvement of
the brothers within the entire
Greek community. One of our
brothers, Jason Fitch, has been
selected to construct a completely
new site for CWRU
Greek Life on the world wide
web. Two brothers, Amish
Patel and Anthony Skalak, will
be participating in the Peer
Helper program to train
Greeks to act as counselors in
crisis situations. Our president,
Shawn Horner, is finding
the time to contribute his
talents to the IFC/Panhel Student-Administration
Task
Force, a committee whose
purpose is to improve relations
between Greek students
and faculty at Case Western
Reserve. Brother Mike Snider
is playing a key role in a
Greek PubUc Relations Committee
that is being headed up
by brotiier Ray Wright (IFC
vice president of communications).
The goal of this committee
is to improve the
overall image of Greeks
within the entire University
conununity as well as the surrounding
community of
Cleveland.
All of this activity combined
with the usual pursuit
of academic excellence is a
great challenge; however, not
overwhelming to our brothers.
We, the brothers, would like
to bid congratulations and
good luck to brothers John
SkaUcki and Tony Kirchner
who will be graduating in
December. You both will be
gready missed.
