LEAVE A LEGACY
An initiative of the Greater Cincinnati Planned Giving Council
By William R. "Rusty Richardson
LEGACIES AND FRATERNITIES HAVE ALWAYS BEEN
closely linked together. Whether the legacy relationship
is that of a father to a son, a brother to a
brother, an uncle to a nephew, or a grandfather to a
grandson, the concept has been to provide a special
opportunity for someone else to share a similar fraternity
experience.
The term legacy has another meaning besides the one v^e
use within the fraternity context. It is that other meaning that
is the focus of this article.
Leave a Legacy is an initiative of the Greater Cincinnati
Planned Giving Council designed to promote interest in charitable
giving through a will or from an estate. Dozens of other
communities across the country are developing similar initiatives.
While at first these two meanings of the term legacy may seem quite
different, the motivation behind each is the same ... to make a difference
in the lives that follow.
Making a lasting difference. That is what bequest giving does — not
only for Phi Delta Theta — but for many of your other favorite charitable
organizations. People whose lives would be far different were it not for the
thoughtfulness, generosity and foresight of others know firsthand the
profound difference that bequest giving can make.
By making a bequest gift to your favorite charitable organizations, you
are substantially increasing the ability of those organizations to continue
their vital work for generations to come.
Bequest giving is simple. If you are working with a professional (a
financial planner, attorney, accountant or insurance agent), you can contact
him about your gift. A professional can also advise you about the tax
benefits of planned gifts.
