what this brotherhood really
stands for. \\'e also have been
accepted as a street-captain in
our neighborhood. This year
Ontario Beta's biggest challenge
is to move om- Fraternity
firom a position of
disadvantage to one of being
well-placed for the fiiture. In
dosing, the Brothers of
Ontario Beta \s'ould like to
thank Alumni Rob Parsons,
Mike Mills, Darcy McNeill,
Greg Gruni, and George Clark
for reminding us that Phi
Ddta Theta is a Fratemit)'^ for
Pennsylvania Mu
widener University
Shortly after graduating firom
Widener University' about one
year ago. Brother Herman
Saunders, '95, died in a tragic
motorcyde acddenL Herman
was a mechanical engineering
major while at Widener. To
hdp finance his education,
Herman worked in the ^V'idener
computer lab for three
years. By his third year, he was
promoted to lab manager.
Herman was also a member
of the Army Reserves. During
the final year of his education,
Herman interned at Checkpoint
Systems, Inc., in
Thorofare, NJ and commuted
from home while completing
his studies in Chester, PA.
l^on graduation, Herman
accepted a full-time position
at Checkpoint Systems.
Herman Saunders was one
of the finest brothers the
Peimsylvania Mu chapter has
known. Herman gave everything
he had in everything he
did. While an active brother,
he served as pledgemaster
and vice-president, going
above and beyond the duties
of those positions and often
assisting other oflBcers.
Herman demonstrated the
three cardinal principles in
his daily living. His coimnitment
to the Fraternity was
recognized when he was
awarded the Penn Mu
Chapter's Advisor Award in
1996. He will never be forgotten
or replaced.
The brothers of Peimsylvania
Mu, along with Herman's
&mily and firiends,are joining
together to remember
Herman in a spedal way by
estabUshing the Herman
Saunders Memorial Scholarship.
The scholarship \NT11 be
given to a Widener student,
with preference given to a
member of Phi Ddta Theta,
who demonstrates leadership
within the Wdener community.
To make this an endowed
scholarship the members of
Penn Mu must raise 525,000.
The chapter is well on its way
with 512,000, but has a long
way to go. Widener Universit)'
will invest the funds and the
interest will be used to benefit
the student sdected as the
Saunders scholar.
Any contributions can be
sent to Kristyn Huey at the
Widener Universit)' Devdopment
at (610) 499-4422 for more
University of Tennessee
The brothers of Tennessee
Gamma enjoyed another outstanding
year in the 1997-
our officers, chapter adviser,
alumni, and province president.
For the second straight
year our chapter has received
an outstanding GPA award
from the Interfratemit}'
Dave's hard work our chapter
to thank those who helped us
make our transition to alcohol-free
housing a smooth
Hahnemann. Mr. Hahnemann's
sound advice and
leadership guided us from
day one, and we are forever
grateful to him for his outstanding
brothers Win Pratt, Brian
