Alabama Alpha<br />

University of Alabama<br />

Alabama Alpha has been back<br />

in the fold for well over a year<br />

and a half now, and everything<br />

is headed in the right<br />

direction. The chapter finished<br />

up the 1997-98 school<br />

year with a high ranked active<br />

GPA as well as being nominated<br />

by the General Headquarters<br />

for an Improved<br />

Citation. The chapter participated<br />

in the Habitat for Humanity<br />

program and had two<br />

members inducted into<br />

Jasons. Jasons is the oldest<br />

honor society at University of<br />

Alabama, and only 35 people<br />

are selected to join each year.<br />

Brother David Walton, who<br />

previously served as secretary<br />

of the SGA Senate, is now<br />

serving as vice president of<br />

the IFC. Alabama Alpha is<br />

ejecting nothing but continued<br />

improvement for the<br />

<strong>1998</strong>-99 school year as we<br />

strive to increase oiu: membership,<br />

excel further in academics<br />

and continue to<br />

improve the appearance of the<br />

chapter house. We hope to<br />

have continued support from<br />

all the Alabama Alpha alumni.<br />

Alberta Alpha<br />

University of Alberta<br />

In a style unique to Alberta<br />

Alpha, the fraternity's northern<br />

most chapter concluded<br />

the 1997-<strong>1998</strong> academic year<br />

with a social retreat that allowed<br />

the brothers to forget<br />

the year's exam period and<br />

ease into sunmier. Like past<br />

sununers, the brothers weren't<br />

idle. For the first time in<br />

many years the chapter is going<br />

to begin the process of<br />

renovating its house. This has<br />

been made possible by the<br />

continued dedication and<br />

generosity of our alumni and<br />

the commitment of the membership<br />

to alcohol-free housing.<br />

We had a number of<br />

projects which helped us use<br />

our leading role in the movement<br />

toward dry housing as a<br />

rush asset. The largest project<br />

in this effort was our estab-<br />

Ushment of a major campus<br />

concert during the first week<br />

of school. Another event to<br />

which many of the brothers<br />

looked forward (mainly because<br />

they were able to participate)<br />

was our inclusion in<br />

the Orientation activities that<br />

are rim by the Student Union<br />

to introduce new students to<br />

life at the U of A. In conjimction<br />

with our traditional<br />

events, such as the<br />

paintballing, the Aliunni<br />

Smoker, and Formal Bid Stag,<br />

we had very successful rush<br />

and start to the year.<br />

The rush schedule plaimed<br />

by Brother Scott AinsUe made<br />

<strong>Phi</strong> <strong>Delta</strong> <strong>Theta</strong> one of the<br />

most visible fi-atemitieson<br />

campus. This produced a<br />

strong and conmiitted group<br />

of <strong>Phi</strong>keias that will make a<br />

great addition to the chapter.<br />

Once again the Formal Bidding<br />

Stag was held at the Faculty<br />

Club on campus and<br />

attended by our Province<br />

President. Conclusively, one of<br />

the best events in September<br />

was the Blue Room at the<br />

Campus Cove arcade and pool<br />

hall. A dose second was the<br />

annual Gainford<br />

Exchange.<br />

To keep the brothers up-todate<br />

and informed, the chapter<br />

has started a Ustserv for<br />

those with connections to the<br />

internet and e-mail addresses.<br />

Currentiy we have set up one<br />

for conununications between<br />

members of our <strong>Phi</strong>keia<br />

classes, and one for the dissemination<br />

of general chapter<br />

information. If you would like<br />

We hope to soon have another<br />

hstserv specifically set up for<br />

our alunmi.<br />

On other notes, there has<br />

been an active movement towards<br />

increased alunmi involvement,<br />

most notably in<br />

the formation of a Chapter<br />

Advisory Board and an officer<br />

mentoring program. With<br />

this type of a start to the<br />

school year, <strong>1998</strong>-99 should<br />

be a very successful one.<br />

Finally, this term has witnessed<br />

the start of substantial<br />

renovations to the chapter<br />

house. Most notable is the<br />

new roof at the expense of the<br />

balcony—an Alberta Alpha<br />

tradition for over 25 years.<br />

California Omicron<br />

CSU-Sacramento<br />

This year is going to be extremely<br />

entertaining tor the<br />

brothers of California Omicron.<br />

<strong>No</strong>t only is it our 10th<br />

year on the campus of California<br />

State University, Sacramento,<br />

but it's the 150th<br />

aimiversary for <strong>Phi</strong> <strong>Delta</strong><br />

<strong>Theta</strong>. Since our local founding,<br />

we have achieved many<br />

accolades. Most notable are<br />

our awards received from<br />

General Headquarters which<br />

indudes several Gold Star<br />

Awards, GHQ Trophies, and<br />

the Bikers Ritual Trophy. We<br />

are continuously recognized<br />

as having a superior chapter<br />

on our campus. As winners<br />

of the prestigious Dean's Trophy,<br />

seven of the last nine<br />

years. <strong>Phi</strong> Ddta <strong>Theta</strong> has<br />

become the most recognized<br />

sodal fraternity on campus.<br />

We have many events<br />

planned for the upcoming<br />

semester to cdebrate our success,<br />

induding an extravagant<br />

ten-year reunion at Lake<br />

Natoma Inn located in historic<br />

downtown Folsom. We<br />

wiQ also begin our defense of<br />

the elusive All-Sports Trophy<br />

presented by campus intramurals.<br />

This year will also<br />

lead to the pinnade of all<br />

championships, Greek Week.<br />

After a soUd second place finish<br />

last year, we are poised to<br />

capture the titie this year.<br />

The brothers of California<br />

Omicron would like to extend<br />
