Foundation grants its first-ever
Graduate Fellowships
When the Trustees voted to oflfer four
fellowships to graduate and professional
students at their faD 1997
meeting, they had no idea how popular
a decision it would be. The re^
sponse was enthusiastic—even
heartwarming. With short notice before
the May 1 deadline, twenty-six
outstanding students hustled to complete
applications for the first four
$2,500 awards.
The judges selected a medical student
and three law students to receive
the first year's fellowships.
Jonathan C. Routh, North Carolina
State '98, entered medical school at
the University of North Carolina at
Chapel Hill this fall with the help of one
of our fellowships. His home is Raleigh,
North Carolina.
Routh is joined by Robert Todd
Sherwin, Texas Christian '98, who has
entered the Texas Tech University School
of Law. Sherwin calls Agoura Hills, California,
home.
Roy T. Van Brunt III, Southeast Missouri
State '96, began his third year at the
University of Baltimore School of Law
this fall. Van Brunt is serving the Fraternity
as a Graduate Educational Advisor
for Maryland Alpha chapter at the University
of Maryland this year.
Alan Gray Bryan, Arkansas '98, is the
fourth fellowship recipient. Bryan began
his studies this fall at the University
of Arkansas School of Law.
Morrilton, Arkansas is his home.

The Lyon Scholarship is available to
students who share Pete Lyon's passion
for making films. It is available to Phis
and to non Phis, to graduate students
and to undergraduates, to men and to
women.
The Trustees express their gratitude to

selected Mr. Trevino as this year's scholarship
