12 volunteer as province presidents
Following chapter approval, the General
Coimcil has appointed twelve new province
presidents to provide guidance and
support to chapters in their provinces.
Derek Goldstein, Utah '86, now presides
over the Beta East province (1)
which includes New Jersey and a
small portion of New York.
Goldstein, who has attended
eight conventions, works as an
area manager and directs marketing
and sales for medical
equipment at Fresenius, Inc. He
and his wife now reside in
Brooklyn, New York.
Theta West, which includes
Louisiana and Mississippi (2), is headed
by Rev. Garland C. Belsome, LSU '80.
Belsom is an associate pastor at the
Catholic Student Center at Louisiana
State University where he works with students
and the Greek community. Rev.
Belsome also served as the chapter advisory
board chairman at Louisiana Beta
before his appointment as province
president.
Scott T. Kowalski, Wisconsin '89, is
the director of goverrunent sales and corporate
attorney for AB Business Solution
in Madison, WI where he and his wife
live. Having served as chapter advisory
board chairman at Wisconsin Alpha, he
now serves on the chapter's house corporation
and is the president of Iota North
(Wisconsin, 3).
Iota South (Illinois and Valparaiso
University, 4) is under the guidance of
Carl Melby, Indiana State '78. Melby
who served the Fraternity as a chapter
consultant from 1979-80, is a vice president
for the mortgage lending division of
Chase Manhattan Bank in Oakbrook, IL.
He lives in Elmhurst, IL, with his wife
and is an avid golfer.
The Wabash, Buder, DePauw, Purdue,
and Ball State chapters of Indiana have
Dr. Douglas L. Christiansen, Utah '88,
as the new president of Kappa North (5).
Having served as chapter adviser at Utah
Alpha, a house corporation member, and
a province president, Christiansen is the
director of admissions and an assistant
professor in the School of Education at
Purdue University. He resides in West
Lafayette with his wife and two sons.
The Lambda province, comprised of
Manitoba, Minnesota and North Dakota
(6), has Floyd "Bud" Roberts III,
Mankato '89,
as its president. Roberts has been on
the Minnesota Beta chapter advisory
board and its house corporation. He
works as a claims manager for the Hartford
Insurance Co. in Minneapolis and
resides with his wife in Burnsville, MN.
Appointed to serve as Phi Province
President (7), Mark A. Dagitz, Drake
'86, has attended three Leadership Colleges
and one convention. Dagitz is a lawyer
for Norwest Mortgage, in Des
Moines, and has served on the advisory
board for his chapter.
Rho North (8) and East (9) have
Hugh King, SMU '57, and Stephen
Roper, Texas Tech '83, respectively, as
their presidents.
King was on the advisory board for
Texas Deka from 1989-1998 and is a
partner with Golden King Properties, a
holding company for various commercial
real estate entities. He had also been active
with the Dallas Alumni Club, the
SMU Alumni Association, and his
church. Hugh and his wife, Gail, live in
Dallas, TX.
Roper is a corporate accoimt executive
for Johnson & Johnson Heath Care Systems,
responsible for 18 of its different
operating companies. He enjoys golf,
running, white water rafting and was a
baseball letterman at Texas Tech. He and
his wife live in Kingwood, TX.
William J. Mark, Colorado '72, is the
president for Xi province (10) and lives
with his wife in Boulder, CO. They have
four children of whom one son is a
member of Phi Delta Theta. He has been
active on the chapter advisory board and
house corporation for Color
'^,j>, rado Alpha and is the vice
• \jJy president of American Spec-
/^ trum Real Estate, a commerr
cial real estate company operating
in 13 western states.
Richard R. Mayer, Cal-Berkeley
'62, has been named to oversee Tau
North (11). He is actively involved at
Washington Epsilon as the treasurer of
the house corporation and has served on
its advisory board. Mayer is president of
Sun Rental Center, Inc. and is an avid
fisherman.
Omicron South (12) has former province
president and General Council
member, Stanley W. Gilson, California
State-Northridge '70, as its new president.
Gilson has also served as a chapter
adviser and attended eight conventions
and several Leadership Colleges. His is a
senior trial attorney for the State of California
and lives with his wife in West
Hills, CA.
Advisers needed
Seventeen chapters are currently in
search of an alumnus interested in serving
as chairman for the chapter's advisory
board. These chapters include:
