12 volunteer as province presidents<br />

Following chapter approval, the General<br />

Coimcil has appointed twelve new province<br />

presidents to provide guidance and<br />

support to chapters in their provinces.<br />

Derek Goldstein, Utah '86, now presides<br />

over the Beta East province (1)<br />

which includes New Jersey and a<br />

small portion of New York.<br />

Goldstein, who has attended<br />

eight conventions, works as an<br />

area manager and directs marketing<br />

and sales for medical<br />

equipment at Fresenius, Inc. He<br />

and his wife now reside in<br />

Brooklyn, New York.<br />

<strong>Theta</strong> West, which includes<br />

Louisiana and Mississippi (2), is headed<br />

by Rev. Garland C. Belsome, LSU '80.<br />

Belsom is an associate pastor at the<br />

Catholic Student Center at Louisiana<br />

State University where he works with students<br />

and the Greek community. Rev.<br />

Belsome also served as the chapter advisory<br />

board chairman at Louisiana Beta<br />

before his appointment as province<br />

president.<br />

Scott T. Kowalski, Wisconsin '89, is<br />

the director of goverrunent sales and corporate<br />

attorney for AB Business Solution<br />

in Madison, WI where he and his wife<br />

live. Having served as chapter advisory<br />

board chairman at Wisconsin Alpha, he<br />

now serves on the chapter's house corporation<br />

and is the president of Iota <strong>No</strong>rth<br />

(Wisconsin, 3).<br />

Iota South (Illinois and Valparaiso<br />

University, 4) is under the guidance of<br />

Carl Melby, Indiana State '78. Melby<br />

who served the Fraternity as a chapter<br />

consultant from 1979-80, is a vice president<br />

for the mortgage lending division of<br />

Chase Manhattan Bank in Oakbrook, IL.<br />

He lives in Elmhurst, IL, with his wife<br />

and is an avid golfer.<br />

The Wabash, Buder, DePauw, Purdue,<br />

and Ball State chapters of Indiana have<br />

Dr. Douglas L. Christiansen, Utah '88,<br />

as the new president of Kappa <strong>No</strong>rth (5).<br />

Having served as chapter adviser at Utah<br />

Alpha, a house corporation member, and<br />

a province president, Christiansen is the<br />

director of admissions and an assistant<br />

professor in the School of Education at<br />

Purdue University. He resides in West<br />

Lafayette with his wife and two sons.<br />

The Lambda province, comprised of<br />

Manitoba, Minnesota and <strong>No</strong>rth Dakota<br />

(6), has Floyd "Bud" Roberts III,<br />

Mankato '89,<br />

as its president. Roberts has been on<br />

the Minnesota Beta chapter advisory<br />

board and its house corporation. He<br />

works as a claims manager for the Hartford<br />

Insurance Co. in Minneapolis and<br />

resides with his wife in Burnsville, MN.<br />

Appointed to serve as <strong>Phi</strong> Province<br />

President (7), Mark A. Dagitz, Drake<br />

'86, has attended three Leadership Colleges<br />

and one convention. Dagitz is a lawyer<br />

for <strong>No</strong>rwest Mortgage, in Des<br />

Moines, and has served on the advisory<br />

board for his chapter.<br />

Rho <strong>No</strong>rth (8) and East (9) have<br />

Hugh King, SMU '57, and Stephen<br />

Roper, Texas Tech '83, respectively, as<br />

their presidents.<br />

King was on the advisory board for<br />

Texas Deka from 1989-<strong>1998</strong> and is a<br />

partner with Golden King Properties, a<br />

holding company for various commercial<br />

real estate entities. He had also been active<br />

with the Dallas Alumni Club, the<br />

SMU Alumni Association, and his<br />

church. Hugh and his wife, Gail, live in<br />

Dallas, TX.<br />

Roper is a corporate accoimt executive<br />

for Johnson & Johnson Heath Care Systems,<br />

responsible for 18 of its different<br />

operating companies. He enjoys golf,<br />

running, white water rafting and was a<br />

baseball letterman at Texas Tech. He and<br />

his wife live in Kingwood, TX.<br />

William J. Mark, Colorado '72, is the<br />

president for Xi province (10) and lives<br />

with his wife in Boulder, CO. They have<br />

four children of whom one son is a<br />

member of <strong>Phi</strong> <strong>Delta</strong> <strong>Theta</strong>. He has been<br />

active on the chapter advisory board and<br />

house corporation for Color<br />

'^,j>, rado Alpha and is the vice<br />

• \jJy president of American Spec-<br />

/^ trum Real Estate, a commerr<br />

cial real estate company operating<br />

in 13 western states.<br />

Richard R. Mayer, Cal-Berkeley<br />

'62, has been named to oversee Tau<br />

<strong>No</strong>rth (11). He is actively involved at<br />

Washington Epsilon as the treasurer of<br />

the house corporation and has served on<br />

its advisory board. Mayer is president of<br />

Sun Rental Center, Inc. and is an avid<br />

fisherman.<br />

Omicron South (12) has former province<br />

president and General Council<br />

member, Stanley W. Gilson, California<br />

State-<strong>No</strong>rthridge '70, as its new president.<br />

Gilson has also served as a chapter<br />

adviser and attended eight conventions<br />

and several Leadership Colleges. His is a<br />

senior trial attorney for the State of California<br />

and lives with his wife in West<br />

Hills, CA.<br />

Advisers needed<br />

Seventeen chapters are currently in<br />

search of an alumnus interested in serving<br />

as chairman for the chapter's advisory<br />

board. These chapters include:<br />
