Epsilon Eastern Wash. Chapter Reports Alberta Alpha University of Alberta This past winter semester has been an extremely busy and productive one for the chapter. It began with the initiation of 10 new brothers, Scott Ainslie, Gr^ Lulzak, Derek Krausher, Goid Ward, Rick Scholten, Trevor Seifried, Tom Pierce, Benj Carson, Matt Peter and Dave Shylko. This brings the number of gendemen who have signed The Bond at Alberta Alpha to 1052. The rest of January finished with a flurry of events including the annual ski trip to Femie, B.C., and the chapter's membership being spUt between attending the Crimestoppers Telethon and the Delta Gamma formal. This year Brother Chris Maxwell represented us in the Alpha Gam Man competition with an unplugged rendition of the Spice Girls' hit ''Wannabe." This event coincided vdth our aimual visit from the Leadership Consultant Rich Robles. During reading week this year about a third of the chapter took a trip together down to Puerto Vallarta. Bodi die Founders Day Alumni Stag and the Actives Formal were well attended events. We honored Brother Denny McCoy as Alumni of the Year and recognized the work of Brothers John Hope, Don Oxford, Bill Stevrart, and our chapter adviser, Kevin Kolisniak. Brother Al Bryan entertained us with an amusing and important keynote speech. Also in attendance was the president of the Canadian Phi Delta Theta Scholarship Foundation, Brother Andrew Kidd. This term we elected Brother Jay Herrick as our president to enter the 1998-99 school year. Beyond this term we look forward to the beginning renovations to the house and preparing for a successfiil fall. Feel free to get in touch with the chapter at (403) 433-2838 regarding fiiture events or helping out vnth our building fimd, and we look forward to seeing alumni out at fiiture chapter events. —Don Bennie Iowa Gamma Iowa State University The 1998 spring semester has once again been a very successfiil period for the members of fowa Gamma as we have maintained the high standards of excellence that have become synonymous with our chapter. Preparation for this semester's annual Varieties competition began during the fall as we teamed up with the women of Pi Beta Phi and Chi Omega. Varieties requires us to write an original musical skit complete vfith our own band for accompaniment. Members recorded long hours vwiting and revamping the script. 28 THE SCROLL • SUMMER 1998
EKU president thanks Phis for their help Nine Phis from Kentucky Theta volunteered their assistance for Eastern Kentucky University's Thank-athon '98. University President Hanly Funderburk wrote a letter praising the Phis' help with calls to alumni with thanks for their financial support of the university. 'M& /^> .." rehearsing the performance and fine-tunmg the details. This year's skit again landed us a place in the Sweepstakes round which only takes the top three productions. Although we fmished in third place, after overcoming the adversity of losing several important characters well into the rehearsal stage, we consider Varieties 1998 a success. The onset of spring marked the return of the annual ISU VEISHEA celebration. The highlight of VEISHEA weekend for most people is the parade. Each year, we team with a sorority to build an amazing float. This year we, along with the women of Alpha Omicron Pi, built a float entitled "Banking on Change" that depicted a large cash register with dozens of characters partaking in various activities. The endless hours of tiresome work paid off as we captured first place within our size division and second place overall. Despite the ongoing activities, the members of Iowa Gamma managed to post a GPA that puts us third amongst all fraternities.
