On April 22 the Washington,
D.C. Area Alumni Club hosted
a Founders Day and Cocktail
Reception to commemorate
Phi Deka Theta's 150th anniversary.
The event took place
from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. in the
Cannon House Office
Building on Capitol HUl.
We were very fortunate and
honored to have two members
of Congress co-host the
event. Rep. Jim Ramstad,
Minnesota '68 (R-MN-3rd)
and Rep. Jod Hefley, Oklahoma
State '59 (R-C0-5th)
each shared a few words.
They spoke fondly of their
Phi Delta Theta experience
and commended the
Fraternity's leadership with
regard to the alcohol-free
initiative.

Maryland Alpha performed
the Founders Ceremony.
Brother Harold Stambaugh,
Pennsylvania '46 was presented
with the Palladian recognition
pin as he celebrates
55 years of membership.
Author & criminologist
Dan E. Moldea, Akron '72,
shared a couple of amusing
anecdotes. His new book, "A
Washington Tragedy: The
True Story of Why Vince Foster
Committed Suicide, Why
It Was Covered Up and Who
Benefited" was just released
this past April.
Also, we were happy to
have Rusty Richardson,
Tampa '80, president of the
Phi Delta Theta Educational
Foundation, on hand. He conducted
a presentation on "The
Living Bond" which profiled
the Foundation's plans for the
future.
About 120 Phis, spouses,
friends and family attended
the event including three past
presidents of the D.C. Alumni
Club—Dr. F J. Pepper, Bob
Fitzpatrick and Bill Treadwell.

"Back to basics" continues to
be the motto of the alumni
club. This motto was epitomized
during our Founders
Day celebration on March 31.
This is the second year that
we have conducted our chapter
meeting according to
Ritual. We all reflected on
what this Fraternity means to
us as The Bond was read by
Brother Travis Pardee and our
founding ceremony was performed
by actives and
alumni. Brothers Al McClure,
Luther Parman and Willard
Walpole received recognition
as Palladian Legionnaires,
and emotions ran high as
each man reflected on the 60
plus years since he signed The
Bond. Throughout this meeting
it was clear how important
our Ritual is to each
brother.
At dinner we were proud to
honor Brother Frank S. Bangs
as our Phi of the Year. Frank
was unable to attend because
of an illness, but his presence
was fek. He has been a loyal
spokesman for Phi Delta
Theta for over 60 years. He
has been instrumental in
making Wichita a Phi Delt
town by daily transmitting
the Fraternity not only not
less, but greater than it was
transmitted to him. Chapter
president Robert Davis presented
Brother Bangs with his
award a few days after our
celebration. After hearing a
recap of our event, Brother
Bangs was asked about any
words he might have for us.
He replied "I am thankful for
this honor, and I am sorry I
missed the opportunity to see
all of my Phi Delt brothers."
When asked about the current
state of Phi Delta Theta he
replied; "Phi Deka Theta is a
great product." I can't think of
a better "salesman" for Phi
Delta Theta than Brother
Frank Bangs.
