The brothers at the alumni
luncheon meeting in March
were treated to an inside look
at the office of the Orlando
City Clerics office when they
heard Grace Chewning, Gty
Qerk, enumerate the various
humorous antidotes of the 4
mayors she has served during
her 40 years as Orlando City
Clerk. She's a walking-talking
history of development in the
dty of Orlando.
She graduated from Rollins
Collie with honors (3.97
GPA) and currently is halfway
through a Masters in Liberal
Studies at Rollins. In 1985
she received a "Distinguished
Alumni Award"
from her alma
mater.
At her last
service award
banquet, Orlando
Mayor
Glenda E.
Hood gave
Grace a diamond
studded
pin and a
plaque which
says it all: "Find
something you
love to do and
you'll never
have to work a
day in your
life."
Brother Tom Brownlee,
Nebraska '50, former Orlando
Qty Commissioner, introduced
Grace and told stories
about how her quick wit and
sense of humor livened up the
council meeting.

Ch]b held its &st dinner
meeting of 1998 on }an. 15
with 34 Phis, spouses and
guests in attendance. The officers
for 1998-99 are Dan
Nidsen, president; Jerry
Felinley, vice-president; Earl
Wilson, treasurer; and Jerry
Stahmer, secretary.
The Founders Day dinner
was held at the Country Qub
on Thursday, March 26, with
37 in attendance. The Golden
L^oimaire certificate was
awarded to Tom Shawver of
Stanford and the 65 year Palladian
to Charles Warren of
Whittman. Norm Dunlap and
The season came to a dose
with the annual golf tournament
on Thursday, April 6, at
the Country Club.

hdd its annual Founders Day
observance at the Lubbock
Country Qub on April 4 with

Smith '68 discussed plans by
the alumni to construct a new
lodge on Greek Ciide IT. He
announced that the Housing
Corporation had voted to
purchase land in Greek Ciide
II and had created a lodge
devdopment committee composed
of alurtmi and representatives
fit)m the active
chapter. Their job wiU be to
make recommendations to
Brothers Judge Fritz Pfeiffer, North Carolina '47, Andy Serros, Florida '48 and
Tom Brownlee, Nebraska '50, greet Grace E. Chewning, the Central Florida
Alumni Clid/s guest speaker and Orlando City Clerk for over 40 years.

Smith aimounced that a
major capital campaign to
raise the money to construct
the facility was being developed
and passed out information
pertaining to the construction
schedule and the
fiud raising schedule.
It was also aimounced that
a scholaishq> had been named
for BUI Dean, who retired this
fall after 37 years as chapter
adviser The $500 scholarship
will go to an undergraduate
each year. This year's recipient
will be Scott Hudson, who
served as chapter president
last fall.

£1 Nino has gone! Vfith all the
rain we've been getting it's a
wonder there still is a North
Bay. Still, we managed to have
a blast at Founders Day Dinner
and have not only
doubled, but tripled, the
ranks of our new dub! Now
we can gear up for some good
times this summer and M,
such as a Sunday picnic and
football match with the active
California Sigma chapter, golf
extravaganza in July, Napa
VaUey wine tasting tour starting
with lunch at Silverado
Country Qub in August, and
more as we get into the cooler
fall months.
The San Frandsco North
Bay Alumni Club indudes the
California counties of Marin,
Sonoma, Napa, Lake, and
Mendocino, and is guided by
the dual purpose of maintaining
ties with Phi Ddta Theta
Fraternity and the local California
Sigma chapter, as well
as an opportunity for Phis to
come together in the spirit of
brotherhood we've all come to
