THESCROLL T
From the editor
You ARE HOLDKG THE FIRST ISSUE FROM
the 26th editor of The ScrvH Traveling
the country as a leadership consultant
over the last two years, has allowed me to
see much of Phi Delta Theta. With each
issue of The Scroll I hope to share Avith
you what your fellow Phis have been up
to. There is one thing, however, that Td
like to ask: If you come across something
of interest, please pass it along. We want
the magazine to be engaging and your
assistance is paramount to that effort
Throi^ the help of several gradous
people, this issue features our General
Continue focus on Principles
THANKS FOR THE .\RTICLES BY BROTHER
David Turner. His communications have
turned into a focal point for returning to the
founding fathers' principles. Let's continue
to look beyond reporting—to the real messages
of Phi Ddta Theta Fraternity.
RICHARD E. HYER, JR.
Mercer, '66
Father David Tumer
greatly appreciates all
letters in response to
his cobimTL The Scroll
agrees that Fr. Turner's
work has helped draw
needed attention to the Fraternity's founding
principles. Practicing these ideals throng om
daHy actions wUl continue to be a focus for
the magazine. Afterall, if we live by these cardinal
priruiples, how could we not achieve
unmatched success as a fraternity or as individuals
Chapter designation problem
I NOTICED IN THE WINTER 1998 ISSUE WHAT
might be an error. On the inside fi^nt cover
Convention and the celebration of 150
years of history Other features we are
proud to offer indude an impressive
spring sports artide and the "Phi of the
Yearr Frank Wright—also a shining star
at convention.
More interestiug profiles and stories
are planned for future issues. Also in the
works is a survey to let us know v^at you
think of The ScroU. Look for it and odier
great Phi news in upcoming issues.
at Colorado Alpha [the University of Colorado]
from '54 to '58 and there was no
David Jenkins.
Brother Ficke is correct David Jenkins, winner
of a gold medal at the 1960 Olympics, did
not attend the University of Colorado. In fact,
he attended Colorado College—home to
Colorado Beta, The Scroll designates a
member's chapter affiliation
by listing their
school and graduation
year in italics after
their name. TypiccJly
this system works well,
yet for a select few
chapters the system is
ambiguous (e.g. University
of Colorado -
Colorado College; Miami University - University
of Miami). We've created a reference list
to ensure such ambiguities are not repeated
in the fiiture.
