pledge class
Kansas Alpha's 1952 Pledge
Qass held its 45* anniversary
of pledging the latter part of
September. 1997,
at the El
0lK€i(l^ Encanto Hotel
in Santa Barbara,
California. Arrangements
were made by Brother Mike
Kansas Alpha^s pledge class reunion
Getto, who is associated with
the Frieden Hotel Group that
owns El Encanto. Brothers
Dean Graves, Mike Getto,
David Burgett and Ted Ice
planned the event Of the 22
available dass members, 16,
along with their spouses, attended.
Six members are deceased.
A group toured Casa de
Herrera, and in the evening
the groups gathered for a
beach party and dirmer. The
next day was given to golf,
visiting the sights of Santa
Barbara, shopping and visiting,
with a formal dinner in
the evening. At the diimer.
Dean Graves, pledge class
president, was presented with
a plaque acknowledging the
esteemed position which he
has held fi^m 1952. Also the
names of deceased brothers
were read and a moment of
silence recognized their absence
from us.
Since only three of the dass
members remain in the state
of Kansas, the pledge dass
had not been together as a

group since their 25* reunion.
However, it took only a few
minutes for everyone to get
reacquainted and pick up
where we had left off. It was a
fantastically successful reunion,
and one would have a
difficult time finding any
more jovial and agreeable
group. Wonderfiil friendships
were renewed. We are presendy
in the process of trying
to determine where our 50*
reunion will be held since
everyone insisted that we had
to meet again soon.
The whole event illustrated
to everyone that the bonds of
Phi Ddta Theta are strong
and will never be broken.

The Brothers of Montana
Beta have maintained
a dose bond in
spite of the disbanding of
our chapter on campus at
Montana State University,
Bozeman, Montana. We
have gathered to cdebrate
the granting of our charter
and to renew fellowships
every 10 years. Our
30-year reunion is being
planned for September,
1998, in Bozeman, Montana.
We appreciate any
help in locating our "lost"
brothers. Any and all Phis will

Valley of the Sun

The beginning of the 1997-
98 school year marks the second
decade for the Valley of
the Sun Alumni Club. Since
many alumni dubs don't last
for ten years, we are fortunate
to have had the help of many
alumni in the Phoenix area
who have contributed their
talents espedally for the young
men at our state's three undergraduate
chapters. "Eruly, these
alumni realize that when the
vows of The Bond were taken,
they remembered that Phi
Ddta Theta is a Fraternity for
Life.
Phi Ddta Theta and Sigma
Nu have pledged to have all
their chapters alcohol-free by
2000. Many chapters -induding
ASU - have already begun
the program.We hope each
alumnus will be pleased with
this movement and it would
be appredated if you could
congratulate the undergraduates
at ASU for their commitment.

the chapter adviser this year.
The Valley of the Sun
Alumni Club would like to
meet with alumni from as
many fi^temities as possible
and hold a meeting this spring
for prospective rushees explaining
the values of the
Greek system and introducing
the "no alcohol" polides. If
you would like to help with
this event or can identify other
members of other fraternities,
please let Don Thompson
know about them.
