Nelson Plant Food
Nelson Plant Food is the insider’s resource for the best products available, and
all at a wholesale price. Whether you’re an experienced professional
landscaper, grower or even just a homeowner passionate about horticulture,
we have the highest quality plant foods on the marketplace today. When you
purchase from Nelson Plant Food, you aren’t getting just any old nutritional
product for your plants. You’re getting a species targeted fertilization program
that will turn lackluster trees, flowering plants, annuals and perennials into
gorgeous, healthy specimens you can be proud of. For more than 30 years,
we’ve been developing the plant specific nutritional compounds that our
clients have come to depend upon. Give us a try and let us show you what our
products can do! We guarantee you’ll be impressed. With everything from the
right hibiscus fertilizer to our Colorstar plant food, crape myrtle fertilizer to
our Nutristar product, we specialize in super food for plants. Confused about
what works best for your yard, tree inventory or landscaping customers? We
can make specific fertilizer recommendations to help you decide on exactly the
right program, saving you money and time in the process. Don’t waste time on
“one size fits all” plant fertilizers. We hate to tell you, but those kinds of
products just don’t work the way Nelson Plant Food does. Palm fertilizer is not
the same as the one you’d use in your vegetable garden, nor the one we’d
recommend for roses or citrus.

Landscapers
Healthier plants. Our custom formulas are created to provide the ideal
ingredients in the ideal balance for your unique soil and plant types, so your
plants grow stronger, longer. We know there’s no room for dead or dull plants
when you’re designing a one-of-a-kind experience for your clients. This is why
it’s so important to use custome agronomically-correct plant food: it reduces
water requirements, minimizes weeds, and lessens disease and insect damage,
so you can keep your clients happy without making extra work for yourself.
Does your turf grass have a consistently thin appearance? Our staff can help you
determine if you are applying the proper amount of fertilizer.
Does your St Augustine appear yellow with stunted growth especially in the
sun? A good soil report will determine if there are micronutrient deficiencies.
In the heat, does your St Augustine grass appear fine one day, then a darker
shade of green and limp, then yellow, then brown with dead looking areas? Our
staff can help you test for insects and recommend a treatment.
Can your turf withstand during a drought, or water restrictions? We have
recommendations to make your turf more drought resistant.
Do you have bare spots in a healthy stand of turf grass? We have turf tips that
cover bare spots.

Plant Food for Growers
Our custom formula for deep greens is designed to help save you green.
Because our custom plant foods target your plants’ and soil’s unique needs
and are designed to be agronomically correct, they’re more effective at
maximizing plant growth and strength. And effective nutrition means that
water needs are reduced, weeds are kept in check, and disease and insect
damage is reduced.
I think I’m having problems with my water? By asking a few questions and
looking at a recent water report, one can quickly tell if it’s something in the
water or a problem in the irrigation process.
What NPK fertilizer would you recommend? That can be answered once several
questions are answered pertaining to the length of the crop, type of plants
grown, facility mixing capabilities, injection capabilities and irrigation systems
are known.
What micronutrient package would be best to use? It will depend on water your
water analysis, crop type and nutritional requirements are identified and what
other fertilizers are being added to the growing media.
What fertilizer rate would you recommend? An optimum rate or range could be
recommended once the crop is known, it’s balance of residency, what if any
fertilizer is already in the water and when and with what was it fertilizer
originally with?

Dean & Julie Nelson(Owners)
Dean Nelson and his wife Julie were 26 years
old with a two year old daughter, pregnant with
their second child, and absolutely no income
when Dean came home one day and announced
“We’re going to start a fertilizer company.” That
was in the fall of 1983. There were no
customers, no fertilizer plant, no experience…
just a vision with a lot of hope and faith. Dean
did have some things in his back pocket, though.
A great life growing up on the family rice farm
in Katy, Texas where important decisions had to
be made daily to keep crops and animals alive.
No matter what, the work had to get done.
Another back-pocket asset was the invaluable
education received during undergraduate and
graduate studies in Agricultural Economics at
Texas A&M. Leadership skills were learned
during four years as a member of the famed
Corps of Cadets at A&M and then as an infantry
officer in the Texas National Guard.
