Mrs. H.K. Harlan of Temple, building
owner, also said July 18 she was unaware of
the negotiations.
Gibbs said all that remains for completion
of the lease arrangement is the signature of
Gene Palmer of Temple, half-owner of
Showcase Internaticral. who is on vacation,
l-cr.n Mitchell of Ennis is the other owner.

appear at the Westbury Little Theatre. She
has been contacted by Brian Pinette. head
of the theatre, and confirmed she would
like to appear sometime around September

Tillman Bond. 40-year manager of the
Arcadia Theatre, said he knew nothing
about the decision. The theatre has been
operated by .\BC Interstate Theatres since
"Love and Cinema." The three films scheduled
included a Houston premiere of "Les
Violons Du Bal." Tuesday and Wednesday
(5-6): "Closely Watched trains." Thursday
and Friday (7-8) and "Gilda." Saturday and
Sunday (9-10). The Friday Midnight Sleaze
Series Friday (8) will present "Vampyr."
"The Third Man" with Orson Welles will
be shown in Kaplan Theatre as part of the
Jewish Community Center Series. Two newfilms
will have multiple openings in Houston
this week: "Mitchell" with Joe Don
Baker and "Take a Hard Ride" with Jim
Brown. Lee Van Cleef. Fred Williamson
and Jim Kelly . . . Actress-vocalist Sally
Kellerman. who was scheduled to appear
with the Smothers Brothers at the Houston
Music Theatre, canceled over the past weekend.
Ms. Kellerman was to appear as a
vocalist. She began her jazz singing career
before starring in films . . . Gwen Welles.
Keith Carradine and Timothy Brown, who
are seen in Paramount's "Nashville." appeared
at Foley's "17. the Big Number." a
fashion musical review at the Miller. "Nashville"
is exclusively engaged at the .Alabama
. . . TTie original version of "Deep Throat."
in its 77th week at the Screening Room, is
on the same bill with "The Devil and Miss
Jones."
Denholm Elliott has been signed to costar
in Columbia's "Robin and Marian."

^arjjot Kidder was here promoting her
latest film "Sisters." in which she plays
Siamese twins. The film is at the Century
South 6. the Texas Bandera Road Drive-In
and the Trail Drive-In . . . "Animals Arc
Beautiful People" will play one week at the
.Aztec 3. Olmos. Century South 6. Universal
City. San Pedro, Town Twin. Valley Hi
and Mission. The Warner Bros. film, four
years in the making, also will be seen at the
Holiday I in San Marcos, the .Arcadia in
Kerrville and the Rialto in Kenedy.
Commissioners Court granted conditional
approval to Chicano Arts Film Enterprises
to use courthouse facilities in their movie
about a young man's journey to the state
penitentiary. The true story requires filming
in a jail cell and courtroom. Commissioners
agreed to provide both settings after a noliability
contract with the county is prepared.
The filmmakers said it would take
four or more hours of filming for a three
and a half minute segment in the dramatized
documentary. Jail cell scenes will be
shot in the courthouse detention area. The
courtroom scene has not been arranged with

DENTON. TEX.—Rory Butler and Clarisse
-Molad say they"re not radical. ""The
women's movement has influenced the lives
of many women who would hardly consider
themselves "liberated", "radical' or "feminist,"
"' they stress.
The two want to make a film jwrtraying
this philosophy. They are students at North
Texas State University. Ms. Butler is a
senior, majoring in art with specialization
in filmmaking and still photography. Ms.
Molad is a graduate student majorina in
film and TV.
"We want to emphasize women don't
have to be sexy or career women to benefit
from the feminist movement." says Ms.
Butler. "You can have a family and still be
liberated."
The fledgling filmmakers have had their
share of problems. One is money. The other
is what they consider prejudice against females
in the filmmaking business. The
field, they say. is mainly populated by men.
and women are generally viewed as incompetents.

the two plan to hire only women for
their crew. "That's discriminatory, but we
want to give them a chance they might not
have otherwise." savs Ms. Butler.
Original Film Prints Are
Stored in Kas. Salt Mine
HUTCHINSON, KAS.—The priceless
original prints of over 1,800 motion pictures
are literally "salted away" in a 650-
foot-deep salt mine near here, according to
Mike Gingerich, manager of Underground
Vaults & Storage Co. Carefully preserved
are films of Clark Gable, Greta Garbo,
Jimmy Stewart, John Barrymore, Wallace
Beery and other screen greats.
Said Gingerich, "We can guarantee a
constant atmosphere of 68 degrees and 50
per cent humidity that preserves documents
and films. And we could survive a direct
hit from a nuclear bomb."
