work on my paintings step by step. I use<br />
photographs. I either look up interesting<br />
things in archives or buy old cards from<br />
second-hand booksellers. But I do not<br />
use the photo I choose as it is; I sometimes<br />
set the figures apart from spaces, I<br />
add or remove some aspects from the<br />
photo with my interpretation.<br />
What are your engagements other<br />
than painting?<br />
Besides painting, I write articles, I do<br />
researches and I lecture on art.<br />
Sometimes I give contemporary art and<br />
pattern lectures for students and art-lovers<br />
in private organizations or universities.<br />
I share my experience and knowledge<br />
with them.<br />
Koşu’ isimli sergimde Yeşilçam’dan farklı olarak<br />
güncel konulara değinen işlerimden bazılarını<br />
sergiledim.<br />
Önümüzdeki dönemde yeni projeler var<br />
mı?<br />
Benim sürekli projelerim vardır. Şu anda kişisel<br />
sergi planım yok çünkü devam eden bir sergim<br />
var. Ancak şunu söyleyebilirim ki bundan<br />
sonraki sergim büyük ihtimalle Yeşilçam üzerine<br />
olmaz.<br />
Son olarak genç sanatçı adaylarına bir tavsiyede<br />
bulunmak ister misiniz?<br />
Her şeyde olduğu gibi çalışmak çok önemli.<br />
Sanat bir birikim ve kilometre işi. Yenildiğinizi<br />
düşünebilirsiniz, karşınıza bin bir türlü engel<br />
çıkabilir, reddedilebilirsiniz ama hemen vazgeçmemek<br />
gerekiyor. Eğer hemen vazgeçiyorsanız<br />
zaten sanatçı olamazsınız ya da olamayacaksınız<br />
demektir. Farklı teknikler geliştirmeye<br />
çalışmak, farklı konulara yönelmek lazım.<br />
Sanatta etki kaçınılmazdır ama dozunu iyi<br />
ayarlamak lazım.<br />

Besides “A Century-Old Story:<br />
Yeşilçam”, can you give us information<br />
about your other exhibitions?<br />
Where were your works exhibitied?<br />
My first works had different references. I<br />
displayed my 2D and 3D works when I<br />
was drawing those pictures. When I<br />
started to draw pictures about Yeşilçam<br />
and current issues in 2000s, I organized<br />
exhibitions in private galleries or venues<br />
of different institutions. For example<br />
last year, I had an exhibition in S Art by<br />
Sürmeli Gallery. In 2013, I displayed<br />
some of my works on current issues<br />
besides Yeşilçam at my ‘Serbest Koşu’<br />
exhibition in Pinelo Gallery.<br />
Do you have new projects for the<br />
future?<br />
I always have projects. I do not have a<br />
personal exhibition plan for now because<br />
I have an ongoing exhibition. But I can<br />
say that my next exhibition will not be<br />
about Yeşilçam.<br />
Lastly, what can you say as an advice<br />
to young artists and candidates?<br />
As always, you have to work hard. Art<br />
requires knowledge and experience. You<br />
may feel defeated, you may encounter<br />
with a thousand difficulties, you may<br />
reject it but you must resist. If you<br />
give up easily, you cannot or will not<br />
become an artist anyway. You must<br />
always try to develop different techniques<br />
and focus on different subjects.<br />
Influence is inevitable in art<br />
but you have to make the right proportion.<br />
